I have sent you a note about a page you started

[edit]

Hi Masato.harada. Thank you for your work on Thomas Gurney (knight). Another editor, BuySomeApples, has reviewed it as part of new pages patrol and left the following comment:

If you can add references for all of the information on this page, it would be a really cool nominee for WP:Did You Know.

To reply, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|BuySomeApples}}. (Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.)

@BuySomeApples: Honoured as I would be, there's not much more I can do to improve the article, I simply translated it from the French article (the German one seems to be identical). I'm not an expert on the subject, I don't even have a copy of the sources cited in it to work from, let alone new ones. Thanks for the suggestion, though. Masato.harada (talk) 10:11, 31 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Oh that's ok. Thanks anyway for translating it! BuySomeApples (talk) 02:50, 2 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Use of definite article

[edit]

Can someone please point me at the MOS recommendation that we should use (for example) "singer-songwriter Bob Dylan" without a definite article, rather than "the singer-songwriter Bob Dylan"? I'm sure I've seen it somewhere. Thanks. Masato.harada (talk) 08:51, 6 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

This issue seems to be one where it should be up to individual editors to decide which way to do it and it should never be something that a different editor, just as a matter of their preferred style, should change. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 20:44, 6 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Per WP:BRD, I wanted to discuss your revert of my edit here and, in particular, your edit summary in your revert. What policy specifically states not to use "the"? WP:FALSETITLE admittedly isn't a policy or guideline, but what are you pointing to that specifically states to avoid using the definite article? JeffSpaceman (talk) 11:45, 6 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for givimg me the opportunity to remind myself of the WP:FALSETITLE essay. Having looked at it again, I see I had misremembered what it said , and you're right there's no specific directive on this, so I withdraw my comment about WP policy.
However, in the specific case of your recent edit to Led Zeppelin, resulting in "the singer Robert Plant, the guitarist Jimmy Page, the bassist and keyboardist John Paul Jones and the drummer John Bonham", this seems to me to be unnecessary, and reads less elegantly than the previous version, without definite articles, which had stood for some time and was the status quo.
Thanks for the opportunity to refresh my understanding of WP:FALSETITLE. Masato.harada (talk) 15:30, 7 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Talk page length

[edit]

This page is getting rather long. Would you like me to set up automatic archiving for you? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 14:01, 7 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

That's very kind of you. Yes, that would be good. Masato.harada (talk) 15:06, 7 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Done. You should see a new "archive search" box at the top of this page.
A bot should be along soon to archive most of it, and will do so regularly, as new items are added. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 15:19, 7 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
