NL Topics

[edit]

Hi; I have noticed you are contributing a few articles/edits to NL related articles. Maybe we could collaborate on a few topics to create a few more interesting articles of the province, its history, people and culture. --HJKeats 19:07, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Categories

[edit]

Please don't add Category:People from Newfoundland and Labrador to articles that are already filed in a subcategory such as Category:People from St. John's. Wikipedia discourages this type of duplicate categorization. Thanks. Bearcat 20:48, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The way they should probably be used is that if a person is from St. John's, they go in the city category; Corner Brook also has a separate city category of its own. If they're from elsewhere in NF, then they go in the Newfoundland category, and if they're from somewhere in LB, then the Labrador category. It's also permissible to create new city categories for other places (Gander?) if there are enough people from there to warrant one — but don't do that for every individual outport that has just one or two famous people, because categories with only one or two entries don't tend to survive the CFD process.
The pre-Confederation category can be added to anybody for whom it's appropriate — it doesn't duplicate the St. John's/NF/LB categories, but it should replace the general Newfoundland and Labrador category if that one's on the article. An occupational subcategory such as Category:Newfoundland and Labrador writers or Category:Members of the Canadian House of Commons from Newfoundland and Labrador also replaces the general category, but it can be added alongside any appropriate subcategory.
Most of the other provincial people categories are broken down by census divisions, so it might be better to replace the Newfoundland category with smaller regional groups such as Avalon, Humber Valley, etc., but it'd be for you guys, not me, to decide whether that's worth doing or not. (And it would most likely be pointless to break the Labrador category down any further, FWIW.) Bearcat 21:26, 8 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Commons Photos

[edit]

I have just spend one weeks vacation on the west coast of Newfoundland and photographed quite a bit of the small coastal towns, post offices, lakes and Long Range Mountains. I have started adding the photos to the article List of communities in Newfoundland and Labrador, you can link there from our Wiki article by the same name. I will be adding more later and feel free to use them while expanding the communities articles WayneRay 14:16, 14 August 2007 (UTC)WayneRay[reply]

New 'patrolled' new pages feature

[edit]

This page should answer your question(s). Starting a few days ago, pages in yellow at Special:Newpages haven't been marked as 'patrolled'. After you created the page, another editor marked it as patrolled (in theory, to see if it's been patrolled, and who by, you can just go to the page History, then click the "View logs for this page" link near the top--since I had moved it, I had to do one further step of re-capitalizing the M in the field and clicking the Go button again), which is supposed to mean either, A) it's fine as is, B) it's basically OK, with any initial issues taken care of or at least tagged, or C) it isn't appropriate for Wikipedia and has been marked for deletion. The idea, as I understand it, is to avoid multiple New Pages Patrollers from having to look at each new article, each evaluating the same issues/criteria for that article. D&D creature list

[edit]

Hey there.  :) Would you mind bringing up a discussion on the format change on the talk page first? Thanks. :) BOZ (talk) 01:03, 12 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My memory doesn't usually extend beyond 5 minutes, so sorry about that.  ;) Yep, so just drop a note on the talk page and if no one says "hey, I don't like that", then feel free to apply wherever it looks good. BOZ (talk) 01:25, 12 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Another thing - the basic D&D monster list probably need more work than anything else - if you can find any time to devote to that, it would help out in a big way. :) BOZ (talk) 16:54, 12 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there! Good work on the list formatting! I am happy with both versions, but prefer the way it looks now.
I would like to ask about your revision from 01:01, 12 October 2008. There you changed a number of entries from "Describes the..." to "Includes the ...". To me, "includes" sounds like there might be something more, while the text should cover all entries. But maybe this is just my impression as a non-native speaker? Or is there another advantage that has not occured to me? Daranios (talk) 15:25, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

About MC 10: As you said you might be adding the Ravenloft Appendix MC 10: As far as I can say without access to them, MC 10 and MC 15 seem to be included in TSR 2162 - Ravenloft Monstrous Compendium Appendices I & II (1996). If you can verify this, maybe it will be sufficient to write a line to refer to that entry in order to safe work and space? Keep on your great work :-)! Manticore edit

[edit]

Wow. Thanks for your er-improved restoration of my earlier edit (re: the Manticore edit). I presently use the god-awful WebTV (hopefully not for long). Apparently if the "back" button is pushed it sometimes erases the contents of the edit box... the entire contents. When I checked it afterwards it had appeared that only my edit was lost, so I did it over. Obviously this was a false positive reading.

Until I have a better interface I have been being very vigilant about NOT using the back button, I just thought so it wouldn't delete my edits. Now that I know it actually deletes it all, I am doubly, triply extra vigilant. I just slow down when it comes to that portion of the editing process like a hand once burned. Much obliged for the info, and if you know any wiki editors who use WebTV please spread the word. Thanks, Hamamelis (talk) 21:39, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Newfoundland and Labrador

[edit]

My point about Newfoundland and Labrador is it doesn't need Newfoundland-related hatnotes per WP:NAMB; that is, the "and Labrador" ensures that anyone who was searching for general Newfoundland stuff would not end up directly at Newfoundland and Labrador without trying to, and indeed, Newfoundland is a disambiguation page. So as to avoid unnecessary reverting, I shall await your response before reverting again. --Cybercobra (talk) 19:22, 17 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion contested: Newfoundland Island

[edit]

Hello Vulcan's Forge. I am just letting you know that I contested the speedy deletion of Newfoundland Island, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: This is a useful disambiguation page, especially since all islands are likely to be regarded as notable. It does not duplicate the Newfoundland disambiguation page. Thank you. Eastmain (talkcontribs) 09:39, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for taking the time.... If you saw the initial article submission, I did not leave Toddst1 much choice since there were no citations/attributes/references, etc. I hope Toddst1 will be less inclined to delete, and instead suggest some improvements.

The article Butter Pot Provincial Park has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No third-party, reliable sources to show holdings of notability

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. Wow. Good eyes. After all this time, it looks like this case will turn out to be a landmark in Canadian corrections. I look forward to seeing what changes you have in mind, If I can be of any assistance, please call on me. BusterD (talk) 01:43, 20 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Good work on an article almost deleted. I think the next few days and weeks will give more perspective on what all these recommendations will mean to the future of CSC. The homicide finding is a pretty damning outcome. After reporters like Christie Blatchford write book length treatments, this page could go all the way to FA status. I remember the day I first read about this case and watched the first video. It seemed like important material even then. I'd eventually like to see the timeline-like text be blended into an encyclopedic narrative, but I think we might wait before making too many changes. It would be surprising if the news magazines didn't cover this at length. Since I'm in the US I can't see the second the fifth estate video. It would be useful if somebody could watch it and create a paragraph describing the assertions made. BusterD (talk) 03:20, 20 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Time to Leave?

Seriously considering retirement. Between the massive cockup that was WP:FRAMGATE and the ongoing effort to delete pretty much everything and anything related to D&D - including the list articles we built to reduce the amount of non-notable articles - I just don't see the point.Vulcan's Forge (talk) 02:19, 13 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there man, I understand the frustration, and you have to do what's right for you. Hello there! I have just seen the deletion discussion for List of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd edition monsters, and could not agree more about this being frustrating. You would not happen to know of more secondary sources to support that monsters are a central part of (A)D&D or some such?
I also have not been here for some time. Are all the monster lists gone, and only the 1st edition one preserved as a redirect? Thanks a lot! Daranios (talk) 19:54, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
That is the current state of things, unfortunately, yes. BOZ (talk) 22:02, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Right. Well, since the deletionists seem to feel it necessary to renominate the article 4 hours and 15 minutes after the last discussion closed as no consensus, it was clearly time to unleash the cranky old man...Vulcan's Forge (talk) 00:03, 24 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Year headings and the num_episodes/num_seasons are used in line with the original/primary airdates. Just as the network fields doesn't include foreign broadcasters that's what the Broadcast and release section is for. Xeditboy (talk) 21:49, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:27, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
