It was established in 1926, targeting teenagers. In 1928, the coverage of life sciences was transferred to the new magazine Young Naturalist [ru], while the rest of the sciences continued to be covered by Knowledge is Power. During 1941-1945 (World War II) the magazine was on hiatus. Since 1946, the target audience also included young adults. After the collapse of the Soviet Union and the loss of state patronage the staff of the magazine and its circulation were severely trimmed.[2]
