Donald Knowles

The Rt Rev. Donald Rowland Knowles OBE (14 July 1898 - 26 September 1977 was an Anglican bishop[1] and the first Bahamian-born Archdeacon in the Bahamas.
Early life
[edit]Knowles was born on Long Island, Bahamas on 14 July 1898[2] and educated at Hatfield College, Durham[3] and ordained in 1923.
Career
[edit]He began his career as a Curate on Andros Island after which he was Priest in Charge on Acklins Island, then Rector of St. Matthews Church, Nassau.
Later he was Archdeacon of the Bahamas and, in 1953, he was ordained to the episcopate as Bishop of Antigua,[4] a post he held for 16 years.[5]
Death
[edit]Knowles died on 26 September 1977, aged 79.
