Komaralingam is a town located in the Tiruppur district of Tamil Nadu, India. It is located at a distance of 8 km from Madathukulam, 16 km from Udumalaipettai, 22 km from Palani, 85 km from Coimbatore and 79 km from Tiruppur.
History
[edit]The town was earlier known as "Kumana mangalam "and later "Kumana-lingam",named after the chieftain Kumanan who is believed to have ruled the region between Palani and Udumalaipettai.[1]
Administration
[edit]Komaralingam is administered by a Town Panchayat.[2] It is a part of Madathukulam taluk in Tiruppur District. The town panchayat comprises 15 wards after the delimitation prior to the 2022 Tamil Nadu local elections. Of the 15 wards, 4 wards (Ward No: 1, 2, 14 and 15) are reserved for Schedule Caste.

Demographics
[edit]- Komaralingam had a population of 13,642 as per the 2011 Census,[3] out of which 6,791 are males while 6,851 are females in the town.
- Population of Children with age of 0-6 is 1266 which is 9.28 % of total population of the town.
- The female sex ratio is of 1009 against the Tamilnadu state average of 996. Moreover Child Sex Ratio in Komaralingam is around 910 compared to Tamil Nadu state average of 943.
- The Literacy rate of the town is 69.80 % against the state average of 80.09 %. The male literacy is around 77.77 % while female literacy rate is 61.97.
- The Schedule Caste (SC) constitutes about 24.75 % of the population, while the Schedule Tribe (ST) were 7.92 % of total population in the town.
- Hindus formed the majority of the population at 90.98% followed by Muslims at 8.36%, Christians at 0.59% and others at 0.06% as per the 2011 Census.
Politics
[edit]It is part of Madathukulam Assembly constituency, which comes under the Pollachi Parliamentary constituency.
