Haile Selassie wearing the regalia of a Knight of the Garter. He was the first African to have been bestowed that order.

In his 58 years of leadership (1916–1974) in the Ethiopian Empire, first as Regent and then Emperor, Haile Selassie accumulated numerous honours and decorations both domestically and abroad. As a result of his numerous foreign visits, he was one of the most decorated personages in human history.[1] During his lifetime, he was recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as having been awarded the most decorations of any person.[2]
