Omenuke Mfulu (born 20 March 1994) is a professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for Segunda División club Deportivo de La Coruña. Born in France, he plays for the DR Congo national team.
Early life
[edit]Mfulu was born in Poissy, France, to Congolese parents. He acquired French nationality on 27 September 2004, through the collective effect of his father's naturalization.[2]
Club career
[edit]Mfulu moved to Reims from Lille OSC in the summer of 2013, and did enough with the reserve team to earn a three-year professional contract with the Ligue 1 club the following January.[3] He made his professional debut as a substitute in a 0–0 draw with OGC Nice on 22 November 2014.[4] His full debut came on 16 May 2015 in a 1–0 victory over Rennes.[5]
After four years with Reims, Mfulu signed for Red Star in Championnat National on 5 August 2017.[6] On 17 June 2019, he moved to Spain and signed for Elche CF.[7]
On 2 August 2021, Mfulu signed a two-year contract with UD Las Palmas.[8] On 5 August 2024, he agreed to a two-year deal with Deportivo de La Coruña.[9]
International career
[edit]On 9 October 2020, he represented the DR Congo national team in a friendly 3–0 loss to Burkina Faso.[10]
On 27 December 2023, Mfulu was included in the final 24-man squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.[11] He started his nation's first match at the tournament, a 1–1 draw with Zambia on 17 January 2024.[12]
