Róisín Dubh (music venue)

The Róisín Dubh is a live music and comedy venue located in Galway, Ireland. It has hosted events such as the IMRO Showcase Tour[1] and the 2fm 2moro 2our. The name translates from the Irish language as the "little black rose".[2] According to Una Mullally in the Sunday Tribune, the venue is "the heart of live music in the city".[3]
Live Broadcasts[edit]
In 2018 the radio host Paul McLoone broadcast a series of shows on his Today FM national program, The Paul Mclone Show. The first stop on the national tour was the Roisin Dubh in Galway.[4]
In 2008 the Róisín won the IMRO award for Best Venue in Connacht and was nominated for Best Venue In Ireland.[5] It won the Regional Award for Connacht again in 2009.[6]
Nial Conlon of Dublin-based band Delorentos praised the venue's owner, Gugai, for welcoming the band when no other venue would.[7] Other notable fans who attend the venue include broadcaster Síle Ní Bhraonain.[3]

The Roisín Dubh in Galway is one of the best venues in Ireland, and even though it's raining again, I enjoy carrying the gear along the side of the canal into the back entrance of the venue. All the walls there and outside the apartment where the bands stay are covered with graffiti and it's always interesting to see what's changed since the last time you were there. [...] Halfway through the gig, one of the lads from Disconnect 4 came up onstage to present us with the Roisín Dubh award for album of the year. That was a massive deal for us - we haven't won many awards and this one was extra special to us. Gugai, who runs the Roisín, was one of the first people to give us a gig, when we couldn't even get gigs in Dublin. He has been one of the biggest supporters of unsigned bands we have ever come across. When we were first coming to this venue we saw records by Jape, Giveamanakick and David Kitt in plaques on the wall of the bar, long before we even had enough songs for an album. It was a great feeling to see our record sitting in that bar alongside them, things like that make you feel like you're doing something right.
