You can't just add important characters here because they already have articles, there needs to be clear criteria for which characters can be added so the template is not overwhelmed. Before I added Pike I checked other templates. The criteria was clearly at least the main characters - the characters who's name appears in the opening credits throughout the series or at least the season, since sometimes main characters are removed and replaces, e.g. Pike instead of Lorca or Beverly Crusher replaced by Katherine Pulaski and voce versa. Note that Template:Star Trek: The Next Generation adds also some main recurring characters like Q or Guinan and Template:Star Trek: Deep Space Nine adds Vic Fontaine, Martok and a few more. For the moment we should stick to the main ones since for the moment the only obviously ongoing recurring character with a sizeable role are the Phillipas.
