The discussion[edit]

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Ashot Arzumanyan (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

I am accused of being a sock puppet of Psalm Tours . The reality is the following. Being unaware that role accounts are prohibited I made some contributions to Wikipedia from role account Psalm Tours . After Cirt blocked Psalm Tours he also marked all of my contributions for deletion. In order to provide evidence that the content I provided from that role account is still well sourced and should not be deleted, I signed up for a personal account Ashot Arzumanyan and provided those evidences in the discussion pages. Right after that Ashot Arzumanyan was accused by Cirt for being a sock puppet account and was blocked. Well, I am really sorry for not being aware of the role account rule and would like to continue making contributions to Wikipedia from my personal account and on behalf of myself.

Decline reason:

Checkuser-confirmed sock of Psalm Tours. Blueboy96 01:43, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

You're not addressing the key issue: the "role account" was blocked for spam edits. Personal account or not, the spam edits cannot continue. Promotional or WP:COI editing cannot occur. Please address this issue. (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 12:04, 21 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: There was a hyperlink to my company website in the role account Psalm Tours which was not put for spamming or advertising reasons. Since we did not know that role account was a violation of rules, we put a hyperlink to the company website in the user page so that others might learn more about the owner of the role account if interested. I kindly request to unblock my personal account Ashot Arzumanyan and tell me if there are some actions I should avoid in the future. Thank you. -- Ashot  (talk) 18:30, 21 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Comment on decline decision of Blueboy96: As far as I am aware Check User examines IPs. It is obvious that in my case the same internet connection should be used both for the role account Psalm Tours and the personal account Ashot Arzumanyan which was created by me right after the role account was blocked. -- Ashot  (talk) 06:40, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your request to be unblocked has been granted for the following reason(s):

I'm going to assume good faith here and grant this unblock with the understanding that the 'socking' was due to ignorance of our policies rather than a deliberate attempt to evade a block. Please note that it is very important you understand that you may not use Wikipedia to advertise or promote Psalm Tours or any other entity.

I kindly request also to review my account's block on Commons. Thank you. -- Ashot  (talk) 05:53, 26 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know how successful you'll be on Commons, Ashot; you'll have to ask at your talk page there. Just because a Wikipedian is an administrator does not mean he edits, let alone possesses administrator rights, on Commons - they're two separate wikis. —Jeremy (v^_^v Boribori!) 09:22, 26 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I asked for review several days ago, but have no news since then. In the meanwhile I need to put the ((OTRS pending)) note in some images so that they are not deleted on the February 27th. Thank you anyway. -- Ashot  (talk) 09:58, 26 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Do you have some alternate way to connect to the internet? Editors are generally not allowed to edit from open proxies. Hersfold (t/a/c) 00:16, 26 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know if that makes a difference, but I login via secure connection and this doesn't help. Right now I don't have any alternative :(( -- Ashot  (talk) 05:03, 26 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Is there still a pending request here? We cannot do anything on Commons - it's a different process that needs to be done there. I see autoblocks already removed - is something outstanding? (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 15:54, 28 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. The problem with Commons is now solved. Actually the pending request is to unblock 83.139.38.1, so that I am able to use my home internet connection for editing. -- Ashot  (talk) 17:18, 28 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The problem is that the proxy you are connecting through is openly accessible - there are two open ports on it - and it has been used abusively in the past. I'll contact the checkuser who placed the block to have her take a look at it, but for security reasons, editors are generally not permitted to edit Wikipedia while on an openly accessible proxy. More information can be found at WP:NOP. Hersfold (t/a/c) 22:01, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks. -- Ashot  (talk) 05:17, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have placed the unblock request on hold pending response from the blocking administrator. Unfortunately, we cannot do much as far as your unblock request on Commons is concerned as I don't think any of us who have commented on this page are administrators on Commons. –MuZemike 19:58, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Comment[edit]

This is a very severe case of WP:BITE. The editor falls foul of rules he didn't even know the existence of and the book is thrown at him. When these rules are pointed out, he is immediately co-operative.

The accusation against the "role account" Psalm Tours of "using Wikipedia for spam or advertising purposes"[1] is a somewhat selective analysis. I've just looked through the first 70 or so edits of that account. There were just two questionable external links added, but a substantial amount of content, including articles and images. These article were then nominated for deletion with the following results:

A sockpuppet case was made against Psalm Tours[2] because of an IP post to an AfD. There was no evidence of malintent, and no double voting. The edit merely provided useful information on alternate name spellings.[3] Again, it seems the user was not aware of the rules and was given no warning about them.

This user shows every sign of being a valuable contributor of substantial and worthwhile content, and need to be helped and encouraged. The treatment meted out to him so far is rather less than exemplary.

Infobox Armenian Apostolic Church Diocese[edit]

Should be working properly now. Kayau Voting IS evil 11:07, 4 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Out of interest, why was {{infobox Diocese}} not sufficient? It is better to improve existing templates than to create entirely new ones for only a small number of articles. I can't see anything in {{Infobox Armenian Apostolic Church Diocese}} which makes it necessary to have this split. Chris Cunningham (not at work) - talk 11:18, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Reply: There are a number of reasons, one of which is that it is designated for a Catholic Church diocese and most of information in that template does not fit the typical diocese of Armenian Church.-- Ashot  (talk) 16:53, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a search with the contents of National Competitiveness Report of Armenia, and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: National Competitiveness Report – Armenia (ACR). It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. CorenSearchBot (talk) 08:14, 26 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The issue is corrected, redirect is set. -- Ashot  (talk) 08:18, 26 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

FYI[edit]

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you recently tried to give National Competitiveness Report – Armenia (ACR) a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut and paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is needed for attribution and various other purposes. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Thank you. VernoWhitney (talk) 23:54, 4 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Thanks for your message. As far as I remember ACR is the only case and I realized that something is wrong some time later. Thanks for taking the time. -- Ashot  (talk) 08:18, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Armeniapedia.org[edit]

Ashot, Spartaz has a legitimate reason to remove Armeniapedia.org. He's applying the same principle of notability as to other articles on Wikipedia. It's nothing to get upset over. Those really concerned should have an article published about Armeniapedia in a newspaper or journal, and then the topic will have notability. That's the best solution. Serouj (talk) 21:19, 14 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No doubt about legitimacy of Spartaz's actions and agree with you about the best solution. But I guess we both know how useful Armeniapedia is. And if it is, then there should ways to reflect that with proper arguments. -- Ashot  (talk) 21:27, 14 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, for Wikipedia it's not really whether Armeniapedia is useful or not, it's whether it is special in some way, and whether a credible source has written about that specialness, which would make it notable. A good question to ask would be "are there other culture-specific or nation-specific Wikis like Armeniapedia"? Maybe it deserves a mention in the Wiki article as an example of a culture-specific Wiki. Scribblescribblescribble (talk) 17:40, 15 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your suggestions and thoughts. You are right - there was no malice, but what was frustrating is that a couple of people who had probably never been to an Armenian website were the only ones who voted. Anyway, I greatly appreciate the bibliography Ashot and agree a couple of articles would be helpful as well. --RaffiKojian (talk) 00:27, 18 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Heyvali (village)[edit]

I closed that discussion since there is no consensus to move. Reopening without something new is not likely to result in any consensus to move. Given the number of words written in the discussion without a consensus, I would recommend that you not submit it again. I realize that you feel strongly about the subject, but I don't see you having the support of other editors which would be need to get consensus for a move. Vegaswikian (talk) 06:44, 20 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I can't stop you from having a discussion to try and reach a consensus. If you do that, just have a discussion on the talk page and if there is a consensus, then do another WP:RM at that time. Vegaswikian (talk) 07:46, 20 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
"You mention that there was no consensus for moving, but there wasn't also consensus on support for the current situation." Doesn't matter. In the absence of a consensus, we remain at the status quo. It doesn't mean, "keep fighting until there is a consensus." --Golbez (talk) 13:46, 21 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Re:[edit]

Hmmm, yes, I agree. Even though one could say that the discussion on the Tsitsernvank is "ongoing", his edits on Gandzasar clearly constitute vandalism because they involve the removal of reliable sources, which plainly identify this monastery as Armenian, and highly contentious editing. You may wish to bring these points to the attention of Sandstein. Best, --Marshal Bagramyan (talk) 16:37, 4 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I've read it Ashot jan but I simply disagree with his assessment. A content dispute means that a legitimate dispute exists between two parties who both act in good-faith and introduce sources which are generally equal to one another in terms of reliability. Unfortunately, neither of those conditions are satisfied in Verman's contributions. His edits on Gandzasar are perhaps the most egregious, since he is actually deleting the sources and replacing them with unreliable websites and selectively using those which conform to his views. Even when he cites De Waal's book (2003), he neglects to mention the opinion of Robert Hewsen on the inscription and the concept of Albania at the time (quote from page 156): Finally we came to the Karabakhi prince, Hasan-Jalal. Professor Hewsen concluded that "I have found not a shred of evidence that [the meliks] ever thought of themselves as anything but Armenians, albeit members of the Albanian branch of the Armenian Church." If Verman still fails to see this and continues with his disruption, that's pretty much close to willful disruption. You may also wish to talk to User:Golbez about this, since he's very familiar with the matter, although I'd be careful because he can be cranky sometimes ;) Best, --Marshal Bagramyan (talk) 05:20, 5 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

So is any admin doing anything about Verman1? Or are they all passing the buck?--Moosh88 (talk) 07:02, 6 April 2011 (UTC) I couldn't follow if the 3RR was violated, if so could you please file it? I'll try to ask one other admin to do something about him... -- Ashot  (talk) 08:54, 6 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

He has now added two more articles to his list and has gone thru it to change the Armenian name to the Azeri one. I will look at the edits again. I have never filed a 3RR report so it is new to me--Moosh88 (talk) 13:56, 6 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It's not just a matter of violating 3RR but just the persistent edit warring and disrespectful and flippant attitude toward Wikipedia's policies that is at fault. Even if he hasn't made three reverts in a single day, that still warrants some form of action because it is still edit warring, which is a sanctionable offense under ArbCom 2, which he is very well aware of.--Marshal Bagramyan (talk) 16:39, 6 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, and has any action been taken thus far? I see that some of the pages have been protected but will this really end once the page protection expires? I fear that Verman will not accept the wiki process...--Moosh88 (talk) 01:35, 7 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

May 2011[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Stepanakert Airport. Users are expected to collaborate with others and avoid editing disruptively.

In particular, the three-revert rule states that:

  1. Making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24-hour period is almost always grounds for an immediate block.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you continue to edit war, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. AgadaUrbanit (talk) 21:49, 18 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I reverted Neftchi's change since he changed a much discussed point in the text (certainly not a AGF edit). Please be kind to dedicate more time to research the case before making this kind of statements. Thanks. -- Ashot  (talk) 05:05, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

re[edit]

I took a very poorly-written paragraph and made it usable. I make no statement on if the information in it is quality; I just wanted to clean it up. So my edit of it should not be used to say I endorse it, if it turns out to be questionable on other grounds. --Golbez (talk) 16:31, 21 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Response to your questions[edit]

Hello. I have already answered your question you posted on my talk page addressing your concerns you had already expressed in this report. So, there is no need for you to play around the subject. Instead, I would really like to see you post that kind of messages on MarshallBagramyan's page since he was the one dismissing and labeling Azeri authors based on ethnicity and place of residence. For future reference, please open a discussion on that issue elsewhere so that other editors can participate, since I had already addressed your concerns. Cheers, Angel670 talk 06:54, 29 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Bruce_Doolin_Henderson.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Bruce_Doolin_Henderson.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? feydey (talk) 20:39, 5 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Help to revert Karabakh Khanate[edit]

Help out they are reverting again to the false Azeri info on this article. 75.51.175.187 (talk) 05:30, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am not very familiar with the sources and can't do a blind revert. I guess User:MarshallBagramyan is much more knowledgeable on the topic.
PS: I'd suggest that you stop editing from IP and sign up. -- Ashot  (talk) 05:43, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

An AE proceeding was launched against User:Dighapet [5]. This may concern you since you were involved in editing articles with his participation. Gorzaim (talk) 00:33, 7 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Re:[edit]

I have. I posted it and re-listed it but no action whatsoever was taken. I'm thinking of re-listing it once more but what's the point if the administrators just continue to ignore it?--Marshal Bagramyan (talk) 16:29, 21 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You delete it from the archive, and then copy and paste it back onto the AE page (see the instructions here).--Marshal Bagramyan (talk) 17:09, 21 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see why not. If you'd like, you can open a new complaint and simply state that mine was ignored, even after I re-listed it. I do agree, though - comments such as those are unacceptable and it's unfortunate that he has yet to understand that. If you need any help, please ask. Best, --Marshal Bagramyan (talk) 20:24, 22 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The stupid bot isn't supposed to archive but you can't blame it - it doesn't know better. Try following the steps I wrote above and mention that this is now the third time it is being re-listed. I will try to draw the attention of an administrator to it in the meantime.--Marshal Bagramyan (talk) 17:01, 31 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
