Alexander Wood[edit]

Just to fill you in, regarding your talk page comments from a couple of months ago at Talk:Alexander Wood (merchant): per the Dictionary of Canadian Biography entry, I was able to confirm that whoever originally added that statement simply linked to the wrong John Beverley Robinson in error; his father, Sir John Robinson, 1st Baronet, of Toronto, also has the middle name Beverley, was born in 1791 and already had a close professional association with William Dummer Powell even though he wasn't actually a political officeholder yet. Better source request for File:Hofacker.gif[edit]

Thanks for your upload to Wikipedia:

You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talk page. Thank you. czar · · 07:48, 9 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Köppen or Koppen[edit]

Hi Kelisi. Regarding your edits ([1] - [2] - [3]), commenting, "no excuse". In English alphabet, I don't have to use diacritics not used in the alphabet, in fact, sometimes I feel that when I write here Köppen dotted, it may seem substandard, unless I'm explaining the origin of the name, not in articles which redirect to the main article, or writing in a language which uses the dotted ö. --Mahmudmasri (talk) 10:21, 19 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

For future reference, please see Wp:BRD if one of your bold edits is reverted. Don't just re-revert: go to the talk page. - SchroCat (talk) 17:34, 21 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Since you so jealously guard all the James Bond articles as if you own them, it hardly seems worth the trouble to argue over one word when I know from previous experience that you are completely unreasonable, have no respect for our language and will oppose any effort to improve the English in any one of your precious articles. Scrutinize others' deeds, yet offer understanding. I think that's what I'd say.Kelisi (talk) 18:09, 21 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That old chestnut – "WP:OWN". As an outsider looking in, SchroCat could easily teach you a thing or two about the English language. Instead of carping about it, indulge in the advice given. -- CassiantoTalk 06:44, 22 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
As an outsider looking in who has awarded Gavin a barnstar, I think you mean. Outsider, indeed. I'm an English teacher, and holder of a degree in language, including linguistics, grammar, phonetics and phonology and semantics in three languages. Not many people here could easily teach me a thing or two about the English language. As for being a "chestnut" ("an old or stale joke" -- Collins; "a subject, idea, or joke that has been discussed or repeated so often that it is not funny any more" -- Cambridge), it's no joke, and never has been. Nobody owns any article.Kelisi (talk) 14:50, 22 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Please get over yourself. -- CassiantoTalk 14:55, 22 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Gavin has posted his name on his userpage. Your award is in the history logs. I don't know which of those you meant, but I rather think your issue has more to do with you being caught in a bit of hypocrisy. Take your own advice, please.Kelisi (talk) 15:14, 22 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks for your extensive notes on Einollen. I have tracked down my ancestors to this area. They came to Australia in the 1850's and I hope to visit Einollen in the next few weeks looking for traces of them (Werner and Schuster). I was a bit depressed to see that the only famous person from the area was a Nazi rascist called Hermann Gauch! Is that the best the area can offer? Camerojo (talk) 07:02, 17 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

(Not sure if this is where I should post my reply). My ancestor, Jacob Werner, was indeed a musician. He was in the Bavarian army but deserted, eventually making his way to Liverpool where he signed on as musician on a ship to Australia in 1855. He was born in Oberweiler-Tiefenbach (and it seems I have you to thank for that page as well!) in 1829. He and other members of his family were christened in the church of Einollen. I was hoping to find some birth/christening and other records in Einollen and Oberweiler-Tiefenbach - perhaps also some gravestones or cemetery records. Also I am interested in tracking down any remote cousins - descendants of those Werners who may have stayed in the region.
You name the mayors of the villages. I was thinking of trying to contact them before we go by means of an email in German, but not sure how best to reach them. Do you think that is a good idea? I presume you also have some connection with the area - is that the case?
By the way, my wife, who will be traveling with me, is an archaeologist and very interested in the Roman connections you mention in Trier. Thank you for that recommendation. Camerojo (talk) 23:17, 17 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

File copyright problem with File:Hofacker.gif[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Hofacker.gif. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright and licensing status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can verify that it has an acceptable license status and a verifiable source. Please add this information by editing the image description page. You may refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:HansvDohnanyi.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:HansvDohnanyi.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 00:20, 20 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Your upload of File:Apartfromtheflock.png or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. Calabogie[edit]

Hi. I've deleted your addition of unsourced WP:OR at the article for Best Damn Fiddler.... I'm not familiar with the film, really, but there is a comment on the film page from one user that the film was partly shot near "Calabogie." That aside, it seems like a fairly trivial point, anyway, as it's merely the title for a fictional work, not a documentary about either community. Autism as a mental disorder[edit]

I don't consider autism to be a disorder of any kind, being a person who is autistic. However, the DSM considers autism to be one. To be specific, they merged classical, Asperger's and PDD-NOS into one. I received a diagnosis of ASD and ADHD under the DSM-5. Besides, even if the DSM didn't consider it be a mental disorder, most people do and that is why neurodiversity activists are fighting against.

Good job on the copyedit on Bering Strait crossing. That page has been on my mental "to-do" list for some time, but was pretty low on my priority list; I was glad to see your improvements to it when they popped up on my watch list. I did notice that you don't seem to care for the word via and changed it twice. I guess it doesn't really matter, both via and through can be used as prepositions to mean "by means of". Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. Gundagai diacritic[edit]

While you have fixed a diacritic, that didn't really need fixing, as it is covered by the disam page already in place, so while your talk page is littered with examples of not using disam pages, you have correctly fixed one, even though the Wp page on disam says to not only just fix one if that's all you're doing. They matter, but not enough when the link goes to wher it is supposed to go to anyway. Dave Rave (talk) 06:58, 27 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have no idea what the point of your message is, but my insertion of an umlaut was one of several edits I did yesterday at various articles as part of a housekeeping sweep that I do every now and then to deal with lazy users who couldn't be bothered to put the umlaut in the name Köppen; "Koppen" is simply wrong. His name was Köppen; he pronounced it like that. I'll just repeat the message that I commonly put in the summary slot when I do this: Diacritics matter. And they do, too. By the way, I see that your own Talk page is "littered" with one general kind of message; so no stone throwing in vitreous structures, eh? Kelisi (talk) 16:33, 27 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Small world?[edit]

I was checking through my watchlist and saw your edit on Georgina River and was surprised to see the citation coming from my Renamed Places in Queensland webpage. I'm glad someone finds it useful (it's a never-ending task, it seems our ancestors couldn't resist renaming/misnaming/duplicating everything they could). If you ever don't find what you are looking for on that webpage, send me an email (it's on the page or talk to me on-wiki) and I will see if I can help. And thank you for your work on improving Queensland articles! Kerry (talk) 06:47, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Nothing is turning up for me on Chollarton (or variant spellings) in my various databases. I think the document we want to see is this map. Alas it is about 1700km south of me! But I shall make some enquiries. Kerry (talk) 15:50, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Using our "Ask a Librarian" service (reference inquiries), I have requested that the State Library of Victoria (who hold a copy of the map mentioned above) check it for any indication of the location of Chollarton. Fingers crossed that they are willing to do it and that Chollarton is marked on it. It can take a couple of weeks for these enquiries, so we have to be patient. 03:05, 6 July 2016 (UTC)
No joy. SLV were very kind and scanned the map for me but it turns out it is the same map as already appears in the article. So Chollarton remains a mystery. Kerry (talk) 02:35, 13 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
