Christian Eriksen[edit]

Hello, I added the 2022/23 league cup to Christian Eriksen's honours list and then you removed my edit. Here is an interview from the man himself back in april 2023 stating that he would be recieving a medal: https://www.manutd.com/en/news/detail/christian-eriksen-tells-utd-podcast-about-missing-the-carabao-cup-final

“I haven’t got it yet, no,” admits a smiling Christian in our UTD Podcast. “I’m supposed to get one. I will get a medal at some point.”

That interview was over a year ago so I think it is reasonable to assume he would have received it by now. He played in every round before the final so why wouldn't united give him one? Andrew701 (talk) 23:45, 2 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This old edit of yours edit broke the FA status for the article. Soccerway is a gambling statistics website and should be used sparingly, I would happily drop the FA until that's repaired and fixed. I was pretty clear about this is the FA arguments, Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of international goals scored by Harry Kane/archive1. Govvy (talk) 09:21, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Govvy: I'm sorry, I'm not sure what you mean when you say that my edit "broke" the article's featured status? I've checked the latest version of the article and it still has the star in the top right corner, and there hasn't been a discussion for it to be delisted as far as I can see.
Is there a policy or guideline regarding such sites that means they are not regarded as reliable sources, or that they "should be used sparingly", as you put it? I'd note that most of our football biographies use such sites (namely Soccerbase and Soccerway), and I can't say I've encountered this as a bone of contention before. So I'm afraid I'm really not seeing what the issue is. Mattythewhite (talk) 17:11, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Because what you're doing is mirroring Soccerway or Soccerbase, and where do they talk about the goals in-depth? BBC, SkySports, other websites give depth to each goal. What wikipedia should not be is a mirror of other websites, so we really need to limit use of soccerway and base. Also, a lot of people don't realise, but each citation from those adds promotional level to the gambling sites and they love that. Analytics allow the websites to have higher search rating from the amount of citations wikipedia uses. I swear 99% of Wikipedians don't know that this is done. Anyway, I am strongly anti gambling because I've seen first hand what it has done to some people. I also feel we need to limit the use of these citations. Regards. Govvy (talk) 10:16, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Govvy: For the purpose of the list itself, we don't need references that discuss the goals in depth. They need only contain the details that need to be referenced, e.g. date, venue, score, result etc (while the goal numbers and caps are covered by the main worldfootball.net reference provided directly above the list). Other reliable sources will be out there that can do the same job, but I decided to add Soccerway references for consistency.
I'm not sure what you mean by "mirroring"? I mean, couldn't it be said that we're mirroring, to one extent or another, from any source when we're basing content on information taken from them? I'd say it's neither here nor there what sources we're using, as long as they're reliable.
I get what you're saying about gambling more generally, but, as above, if a source is considered reliable then it's fine for us to use. Whether we should be more discerning in the sources we use, with regards the gambling aspect, is something that would need to be discussed on agreed upon at a wider forum, such as the footy project.
