requested edit of User:Nat/Recall/Main[edit]

Your page User:Nat/Recall/Main has Multiple unclosed formatting tags lint errors, one of only 3 pages in English Wikipedia with this error.

If you would kindly replace the markup on that page with

{{User:Nat/Title|Requests for Recall}} {{User:Nat/ubx/default}} <br><br><br><br><br><br><br> <div style="text-align: center;"><big><big><big><big>'''Are you sure want to continue?'''</big></big></big></big> <br><br><br><br> <big><big><big><big><big><big>'''[[User:Nat/Recall|Yup]]''' | '''[[User:Nat|Nope]]'''</big></big></big></big></big></big></div>

It will fix all of the lint errors directly on this page and preserve the appearance. There will still be low-priority lint errors coming in from {{User:Nat/ubx/default}}, but that is not as important as the high-priority Multiple unclosed formatting tags error on this page. —Anomalocaris (talk) 03:07, 6 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Nat,

Just would like to check, I understand the file copyright owner has sent in an email using the template provided by Wikipedia. Could I just verify why it was still updated as having insufficient permissions by you, and how I should rectify this? For your reference: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Lim_Wee_Kiak_NDP.jpeg

Hey Nat, thanks for your response. I do not have a personal relationship with KzeeBigname, neither do I seek to promote a particular website.

I would have added different media links if others were able. But since that was not the case, I used the available ones.

I may be a newcomer on Wikipedia, but as a writer, I write from a neutral point of view!

I made an error in one of my responses to your colleague Nathaniel Tang when he asked to provide" by which reason you are representative as stated and authorized to issue this permission."

I am sorry that I did not address this issue earlier and let it reach this far.

I take full responsibility for my action, which occurred due to me rushing to answer your colleague questions without properly deciphering it.

However, I hope you take into consideration the clarity I provided.

Thanks for your understanding and best regard.

Maintenance tags[edit]

I often clean up articles from WP:Database reports; one of these lists pages with too many maintenance templates. Usually this is the work of an enthusiastic new editor who wants to make sure that all possible issues in an article are addressed. I welcome them, explain that this isn't how things are generally done, and give them links to WP:OVERTAGGING and other helpful pages.

So I was surprised to see this from an experienced editor. Readers have to scroll halfway down the page to reach the beginning of the article, and from the point of view of someone who fixes problems noted in maintenance tags, my first instinct is to find another article to work on. In that way, it's self-defeating, or as WP:Responsible tagging puts it, 'Adding more tags usually results in all of them being ignored'. When I see pages like this, I remove the less urgent tags, e.g. Sections and Weasel. If there are related tags such as Autobiography and COI, I keep the more general one. That way, the articles are more likely to get the attention they need. I hope you'll be more sparing with maintenance templates. Cheers, BlackcurrantTea (talk) 06:35, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You moved this draft from a sandbox to draft space, and also tagged it as possibly undisclosed paid editing. We have already had an article on Tanisha Scott since 2013. My first thought is simply to decline the draft as duplicating the article and to tag the draft and the article to be merged in article space, but is there any particular reason that you are aware of why I should do something else? Robert McClenon (talk) 21:04, 7 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Robert McClenon: Thanks for the message. Sorry that I hadn't previously realised that there was already an article before I had moved the sandbox to drafts. What initiated my actions stems from this over at Commons. I will admit that I should have taken a more thorough gander. In any case, other than declining it, no other action necessary with regards to the draft. The user has been thoroughly warned on their talk page here on this project and on Commons UDR about UPE and COI. --Ìch heiss Nat. Redd mìt mìr.🥨 22:51, 7 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2020 Elections voter message[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2020 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 7 December 2020. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2020 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:29, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Undefined rejection?[edit]

Hi Nat, I noticed this and the subsequent notice on the draft creator's talk page. Did you mean to reject it with no explanation? This isn't my area of expertise, so if I'm asking an ignorant question about something that is commonly done, my apologies. Thanks! Cyphoidbomb (talk) 21:33, 30 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi @Cyphoidbomb: Thank you for your message. I didn't mean to reject it with no explanation. I had initially planned to decline the submission with the same rationale as the last two times, but this would have been the third decline. I would have rejected the submission on notability grounds. --Ìch heiss Nat. Redd mìt mìr.🥨 22:32, 30 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Re Draft: Bhupinder Singh Mahal - I have made revisions to the draft in keeping with your suggestions. I was a founding member of a Sikh discussion group on Yahoo-Groups, now shut down. I was approached by Bhupinder in 2012 to help publish his book - about a Sikh emperor - as it could then be disseminated widely among the 1200 Sikh members of the group. No fees were asked nor paid. My son and I helped Bhupinder on the publication on Kindle Direct Publishing. I do not have friendly relationship with Bhupinder. As our members bought his book and wrote favorably about it, and as I came across his recently published book "Origin of Jat Race", I was impressed with his works and decided to explore his life and activities. As I delved into his life I got persuaded to write his bio. I am 88 and frail. Please assist me to improve the draft. S Tallim S Tallim (talk) 15:27, 10 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Technical news

  • IP addresses of unregistered users are to be hidden from everyone. There is a rough draft of how IP addresses may be shown to users who need to see them. This currently details allowing administrators, checkusers, stewards and those with a new usergroup to view the full IP address of unregistered users. Editors with at least 500 edits and an account over a year old will be able to see all but the end of the IP address in the proposal. The ability to see the IP addresses hidden behind the mask would be dependent on agreeing to not share the parts of the IP address they can see with those who do not have access to the same information. Accessing part of or the full IP address of a masked editor would also be logged. Comments on the draft are being welcomed at the talk page.

How we will see unregistered users[edit]

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

  • Access to Special:RevisionDelete has been expanded to include users who have the deletelogentry and deletedhistory rights. This means that those in the Researcher user group and Checkusers who are not administrators can now access Special:RevisionDelete. The users able to view the special page after this change are the 3 users in the Researcher group, as there are currently no checkusers who are not already administrators. (T301928)
  • When viewing deleted revisions or diffs on Special:Undelete a back link to the undelete page for the associated page is now present. (T284114)

New administrator activity requirement[edit]

The administrator policy has been updated with new activity requirements following a successful Request for Comment.

Beginning January 1, 2023, administrators who meet one or both of the following criteria may be desysopped for inactivity if they have:

  1. Made neither edits nor administrative actions for at least a 12-month period OR
  2. Made fewer than 100 edits over a 60-month period

Administrators at risk for being desysopped under these criteria will continue to be notified ahead of time. Thank you for your continued work.

Pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity[edit]

Information icon Established policy provides for removal of the administrative permissions of users who have not made any edits or logged actions in the preceding twelve months. Because you have been inactive, your administrative permissions will be removed if you do not return to activity within the next month.

Inactive administrators are encouraged to rejoin the project in earnest rather than to make token edits to avoid loss of administrative permissions. Resources and support for reengaging with the project are available at Wikipedia:WikiProject Editor Retention/administrators. If you do not intend to rejoin the project in the foreseeable future, please consider voluntarily resigning your administrative permissions by making a request at the bureaucrats' noticeboard.

Thank you for your past contributions to the project. — JJMC89 bot 00:10, 1 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
