File permission problem with File:Riccardo Barbieri at the Scuola Normale Superiore 2009.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Riccardo Barbieri at the Scuola Normale Superiore 2009.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 16:16, 11 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi PhysicsAboveAll,
I'll exploit this section to briefly comment on your recent claim that "Slides are as good as a publication" for inclusion in Wikipedia articles. Unfortunately this conflicts with Wikipedia's "No original research" policy, specifically the section on Primary, secondary and tertiary sources. In particular, as Wikipedia is considered to be a tertiary source, it should be based primarily on reliable independent secondary sources (such as this article on the Ising model in Quanta Magazine) rather than primary sources (such as JHEP06(2021)153). Some limited use of primary sources is possible, so long as these sources are "reputably published", including "meaningful peer review" in the context of scientific research --- this would allow JHEP06(2021)153 but not the slides you linked. In particular, the "As of 2024..." sentence in the content you restored has no source attached to it at all, and therefore appears to be original research unsuitable for Wikipedia.
This is intended to be a friendly message clarifying how Wikipedia aims to operate, and why content of the sort you restored in this article is likely to be removed when noticed by other editors.

Hi David Schaich, thanks for your friendly message. It may be that officially Quanta Magazine is considered as a reliable secondary source, but as a working scientist I would advise you from relying on their content too much. Their articles are written by science journalists which are often actually quite incompetent about things they write about and channel extravagant claims about the authors promoting their work. In addition they don't allow you to check quotes so they introduce mistakes at the level of quotes. This happened to articles written by them about my own research in the past. Friendly and well-meaning, but unfortunately incompetent, that's what they are. PhysicsAboveAll (talk) 12:55, 9 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Ldm1954. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Ising critical exponents, but you didn't provide a reliable source. On Wikipedia, it's important that article content be verifiable. If you'd like to resubmit your change with a citation, your edit is archived in the page history. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Wikipedia is far stricter about sourcing than academic journals are. In addition, adding undefined symbols is inappropriate. I suggest focusing on some of the more obvious issues such as adding definitions of terms and making the article more understandable to novices. There is a reason the page was nominated for deletion. Warning icon Please stop. If you continue to add unsourced or poorly sourced content, as you did at Ising critical exponents, you may be blocked from editing. Please also read carefully WP:5P4. Ldm1954 (talk) 13:46, 9 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
