Retired
This user is no longer active on Wikipedia.

Well, my account has been around for exactly, and I mean exactly a year now (if you look at the timestamp at the end of this message, it is the exact minute I created my account a year ago (verify)). I've had a very good time contributing to a great website like English Wikipedia, but I think it's time for me to leave this project, just for a while. My activity levels have been decreasing the past two or three months due to real life events and trying to be active on other projects of the Wikimedia Foundation, which are Simple English Wikipedia, English Wikiquote, and Simple English Wikiquote. I just can't keep up being active on the English Wikipedia as much anymore.

As a result, I am "semi-retiring". I can't exactly "retire" since I probably will make minor edits here and then, and I do want to continue mentoring my current adoptee. Most of you know I have done much substantial work in the article mainspace, but I won't be doing that anymore for a while. I will still check my talk page several times a week. And no, I am not semi-retiring on the other projects I'm active at.

I just wanted to thank everyone who has helped me during the last year on Wikipedia. And I give a special thanks to User:Jj137,User:Basketball110, User:Shapiros10, User:Steve Crossin, User:Ecoleetage, User:Keeper76, and User:PeterSymonds. These people have especially helped me come to who I am today on Wikipedia.

Hopefully, I will be more active again in several months, but for now, farewell to all, and see you soon. :-)

Thank you,

RyanCross (talk) 05:55, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My talk page guidelines:

  • Please use a ==descriptive header== and sign & date your posts by typing four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your message.
  • I'm online a few times during the day, more actively on weekends. If I'm offline, I'll reply to messages when I am online again.
  • Messages posted here will be replied on this talk page unless requested otherwise. Messages I leave on your talk page should be replied there unless requested otherwise. I do this to keep conversations organized.
  • Please be civil and cool when posting messages. I'm probably one of the nicest editors there is around, and I do like to help people, but please don't harass or provoke me. I won't retalliate, I'll merely revert. That being said, feel free to ask me any questions you have, just be civil, and don't personally attack other editors.
  • Please note that I archive talk page posts a few times every-so-often, so if commenting on an old thread that is gone from my talk page, I have archived it. Consider starting a new thread if that happens.
  • I am not going to be as active on English Wikipedia as I used to, so my responses may be delayed. See User:RyanCross for more information.

Aww! Sorry to see you go Ryan. Best of luck on the other sites, and just a quick question..the WikiCup, should I keep your name in or remove it? iMatthew // talk // 12:18, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Come on IRC if you get the chance. iMatthew // talk // 15:18, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Best of luck. Hope to see you around here again soon. PeterSymonds (talk) 15:36, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
iMatthew: Thanks. Yes, remove it. PeterSymonds: Thank you. :-) Most likely I will be around more during the summer... but for now, I can't really be around on this project much anymore. — RyanCross (talk) 02:18, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Happy First Edit Birthday![edit]

Congratulations! From what I've seen, you've done some awesome work. Sorry to see you semi-retired... And thank you for wanting to stay around a bit for your current adoptee. :)

Thanks. :-) No problem. — RyanCross (talk) 02:19, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Best of luck[edit]

Good luck to you in whatever you endeavor, Ryry (sorry, couldn't resist). You've had a great run here, and I hope you stick around and keep doing what you enjoy (but only if it doesn't interfere too much with the important stuff). It's been fun watching you - you dealt very well with a lot of grief from other editors early on (including several instances from your truly). Thanks for all your help with Randy Ruiz, and unbeknownst to you at the time, Cal Cooper.  :-) Keeper | 76 04:06, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. :-) It's been fun having you around during the early days of my time on Wikipedia. Best of luck to you too. — RyanCross (talk) 06:33, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Seconded, Ryan. Thanks for all of your service - it has been remarkable watching your editing improve over the year. I hope you have a good time in life, with whatever you plan to do. Good luck mate.  GARDEN  22:34, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Request for peer review Mario Ancic[edit]

I saw you in peer review/volunteers, so I don't know if you can help me to review at a tennis biography? It's Mario Ančić. I just need some input from somebody, or, as I see, you're very busy. Do you know someone else then who can help?. Thanks! --Göran S (talk) 00:00, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My adoptee, Pax85 (talk · contribs), is quite a good copyeditor. Ask him, and I'm sure he may be able to take a look at your request. Thanks. — RyanCross (talk) 10:09, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks and a request[edit]

Thanks for signing up at Wikipedia:Peer review/volunteers and for your work doing reviews. It is now just over a year since the last peer review was archived with no repsonse after 14 (or more) days, something we all can be proud of. There is a new Peer review user box to track the backlog (peer reviews at least 4 days old with no substantial response), which can be found here. To include it on your user or talk page, please add {{Wikipedia:Peer review/PRbox}} . Thanks again, and keep up the good work, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:43, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey[edit]

This is RyRy5 right? I was adopted by you and i'm just starting to get back into wikipedia. So even if you are semi-retired can you still help me? please? Writergirlrocks talk 02:51, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

thanks[edit]

Hi Ryan, I came here to give you belated post holiday thanks for your support in my RFA, only to discover that your semi retired, hope that its real life luring you away rather than anything bad happening here, and hope to see you around sometime. BTW my RFA passed by an embarrassingly wide margin, there's a full glitzy Oscar style version of my acceptance speech here. WereSpielChequers 22:27, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Jackie Robinson Article Re-Work[edit]

I've done a lot of work on the Jackie Robinson article the past week. You may not have time, but if you'd like to take a look I'd appreciate any comments. I'm hoping it's ready to re-nominate for FA status. BillTunell (talk) 19:42, 17 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for letting me know. I don't have the time to thoroughly read through the entire article, but from a quick skim, it looks fantastic! Good job. I hope it can become an FA. — RyanCross (talk) 07:15, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
