Blockeringen[edit]

Bandy Hoppsan (talk) 21:59, 20 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This is Wikipedia in English, postings should be written in that language. Regarding your block, you better have to contact me, on Wikipedia in Swedish, when the block has expired. It's only for 24 hours, you should be able to wait that long. / Ternarius (talk) 22:05, 20 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Så du kan inte stå för vad du gör? Typiskt. Bandy Hoppsan (talk) 22:57, 20 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there, could you help process my rename request please?— Preceding unsigned comment added by TheMagnificentist (talkcontribs)

Request[edit]

Is there is any way to get my old name back? As ProudMallu? ProudMallu (📨📝) 14:00, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Abhivadhya. This is a rather unusual request: I changed your name only some 20 minutes ago. If you file your request at meta:Steward requests/Username changes, with reasons for your request, I believe you have a better chance having your request approved. / Ternarius (talk) 14:17, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Done sir, I've requested rename. Please check this. ProudMallu (📨📝) 14:21, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Marry Christmas![edit]

MaxXnite (talk) 13:02, 25 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

That is very kind of you, Maxxnite, but I'm not Christian and don't celebrate Christmas. / Ternarius (talk) 13:44, 25 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Okay my apologies and have a good day, anyway. MaxXnite (talk) 13:58, 25 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

User:Thotcriminal1776[edit]

I have just soft blocked User:Thotcriminal1776 for having an offensive or disruptive username. I noticed that you recently renamed that account to Thotcriminal1776 from Aomalle2 (with this diff), though I am not sure where that rename request can be found, or why that name was chosen. It is rather unfortunate for them, however. I can't blame you for not knowing it was disruptive or derogatory, as I wasn't aware that THOT was a slang term in English until they were reported at WP:UAA by Mhawk10 a short while ago. Perhaps there original name is offensive in another language that I'm also not aware of? Regards, Nick Moyes (talk) 16:57, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Jumping in as I was pinged: the name change appears to be to try to anonymize themself and avoid the appearance of COI editing. Their original name Aomalle2 appears to be similar to the name of the managing editor that the user inserted into The Observer (Notre Dame) in this diff. Upon seeing the edit, I thought about dropping a UPE/COI note on their userpage, but the edit itself seemed entirely uncontroversial so I did not see a need to. — Mhawk10 (talk) 17:23, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
When I change a name, knowing that English isn't my first language, I try to check for double meanings of names that look suspicious. However, I couldn't find anything against "Thot". It wasn't until later I realized that it has an additional, derogative meaning in AE. I of course check if the user to be renamed has any blocks; to inspect the talk page of every user to be renamed for any ongoing conflicts, however, is hardly realistic. Regards / Ternarius (talk) 13:15, 17 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

User:ShockedSkater[edit]

Can you help me with my talk page? My old username appears there, as a redirect. Thanks in advance. P.S. Also in my contributions. ShockedSkater (talk) 15:56, 28 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

ShockedSkater:
Automatic creation of redirects from the old name to the new one is normal for a username rename. However, regarding User talk:ShockedSkater, I see that you on the 11:th of August moved "User talk:Edion Petriti" to "User talk:Edion Petriti/archive 1", which automatically added the rename. Please see this. I cannot see why you did so – that was what caused the problem with your talk page. My best advise is that you remove the redirect.
Regarding your contributions I don't quite understand what you mean – if I list your contributions, they all refer to your new name. The signature of old messages however, remains "Edion Petriti" – the renaming process consider them as normal strings of text, there is no possibility to have them changed. / Ternarius (talk) 16:50, 28 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, I took you advice. :) ShockedSkater (talk) 18:11, 28 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

User:OSBIwebmaster to User:Infoserv2023[edit]

Request[edit]

Hello, I requested a username change because I didn't want my personal name to be on Wikipedia and didn't want it to be somehow traced back to me. My username got changed but the History of my talk page reveals what my username was before the change. Is there something that can be done in order to fix this? ALTGRENDPGDN (talk) 16:29, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@ALTGRENDPGDN: I believe I have remedied this. - UtherSRG (talk) 16:40, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes it is fixed right now, thank you so much. ALTGRENDPGDN (talk) 16:51, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked username changes[edit]

I saw that you renamed a user I had blocked. Luckily I saw this in my watchlist, otherwise I wouldn't have known since you didn't ping me on the rename. No harm, no foul, but it is helpful to ping the blocking admin so that we can either unblock or otherwise engage in a discussion about behavior. Thanks & Cheers! - UtherSRG (talk) 18:57, 5 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'm so sorry, UtherSRG, I must have missed that the user was blocked. Normally I don't rename blocked users. I am really sorry for my mistake. / Ternarius (talk) 19:18, 5 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. Like I said, no harm, no foul. :) - UtherSRG (talk) 19:22, 5 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

That was definitely not a good idea. They are creating WP:COI related articles contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia and probably undisclosed paid editing that is currently under discussion in German Wikipedia, see w:de:Wikipedia:Löschkandidaten/19. März 2024. It seems like that by changing the username, they want to hide these facts.

While this isn't explicitly against the guidelines, it just makes things more complicated now and I'd be inclined to ask you to reverse the renaming. Killarnee (talk) 07:37, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The user was not blocked anywhere. Furthermore, the user was listed as belonging to the English Wikipedia, and the request was written in English. Nothing gave me any reason to check the talk page on German Wikipedia (which in any case would have been pointless, since I don't understand German). Respectfully, I think your request would better be directed to Meta:Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat, so I at least could get an official sanction to reverse the renaming.
Best regards / Ternarius (talk) 08:03, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't blame you at all, all of this only happened in the last few hours so I think anyone else would have renamed them too. I just wanted to let you know because I would have wanted to be informed in a situation like this too. The user will probably be blocked anyway, at least in the German Wikipedia, because it seems like they are using sock puppets. Killarnee (talk) 08:17, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Let me simply state that the recommendation to change the name came from Wikipedia itself.
User "Ternarius", for sure, bears no blame. The overcomplicated processes do.
As for sock puppets, it would seem that insulting people is the new normal when nobody has insulted before and has only presented facts and the references that sustain the facts.
Should user "killarnee" not be reported for addressing other user with insulting comments?
Best regards P0su0h (talk) 13:37, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@P0su0h: Killarnee has already informed me that their above message was not meant as any criticism towards me. Regarding your complaints against Killarnee, I am not an administrator here, nor on meta. I therefore, with all respect, do not think I am the right person to recieve your complaints.
Best regards / Ternarius (talk) 14:12, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It was rhetorical. But thanks for reading it and answering to it. P0su0h (talk) 16:05, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I see now that P0su0h now has been blocked on Wikipedia in German. Had that been a fact when I read their renaming request, I would not had performed it. Reverting the rename now, when P0su0h already is premanently blocked, seems however rather pointless, imo. That also, I think, answers P0su0h:s claims against Killarnee. / Ternarius (talk) 15:08, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You could have become suspicious if you saw them creating an article with the same title as the username. But naming them back certainly doesn't make sense, as that would cause even more confusion.
They seem to have a lot of hatred for the German government. The article they created appears to be fictional according to the deletion discussion in the German Wikipedia.
Well, not my business, I'll leave it to others. I've had enough for today :) Killarnee (talk) 15:44, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
"fictional"?
The Finance Court Rhineland-Palatinate seems to disagree in its decision from Dec 5th 2023 with regards to "§ 20 Abs. 6 Satz 5": https://www.landesrecht.rlp.de/bsrp/document/STRE202470014/part/L
It is of course your prerogative to ignore it. P0su0h (talk) 16:04, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please stop, both of you. I don't think that I have done anything wrong, I have follow the rules concerning global renamers on Meta. I have absolutely nothing to do with Wikipedia in German. There is no reason at all why I should read legal documents in German, a language I don't master. Besides, this seems more and more like a debate between you two. This is not the right place for that. To me, this discussion is over. Besides, I would prefer if you contacted me on Meta about meta issues. I am not particularely active on this version anymore. / Ternarius (talk) 16:41, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
