Userboxes
[edit]- I see that you made some userboxes, but have you actually created the page for them? If not, just create a page called "Template:User (something)" then paste the code into it, and save. Please do not mess up the ideas page with this query, you should have posted it on the userbox discussion page instead. I will now remove your post related to this topic, as you have copies of the userboxes on this page - • | Đܧ§§Ť | • T | C 19:16, 5 February 2006 (UTC)

Minor edits
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your contribution to Characters in RahXephon. I'm not going to revert it, but this is not a minor edit. --GunnarRene 03:51, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- "any change that affects the meaning of an article is not minor, even if it involves one word" --meta:Help:Minor edit. With that said, I look forward to working with you. Do you happen to have any editions of Newtype USA, Protoculture Addicts or other such magazines from 2002-2003? --GunnarRene 04:08, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
Magazines
[edit]Did Animerica include any information on sales numbers, viewer numbers, and popularity (polls and surveys) of anime and manga? Many articles desperately need some information on reception (aside from reviews, which can be found all over the place). --GunnarRene 04:16, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- Good question...I want to say that it did, but it's been so long since I've looked at them that I can't say for sure. If there's any specific titles that you're thinking about, LMK what they are and I'll search through the issues that I have and see if I can come up with anything.
- Well, for now I'm interested in Cowboy Bebop (and its theatrical movie) as well as RahXephon --GunnarRene 06:57, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit]For removing the sentence fragment that slipped past when I reworded those two sentences. Once I've gotten a grip of how the English Wikipedia works (MediaWiki itself is not a problem), I'll see what else I can do for the NGE pages. -Nyp 19:21, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
RahXephon
[edit]Are you happy about the recent edits to the RahXephon article? Most of the movie information has been placed in the movie section and the information about the RahXephon itself has been moved to Characters in RahXephon. More details about the difference in characters between the movie and series would fit in Characters in RahXephon, don't you agree? (Such as this character doesn't appear in the movie, this character sleeps for most of the movie, etc.) --GunnarRene 11:14, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
Regarding Quon: I own the ADV DVDs and they translate her quirky expression as "La-la?" The interchangeability between 'l' and 'r' is a Japanese quirk. 'La' is also more appropriate as a part of the musical scale 'do re me' etc. and given the musical themes of the anime. I really don't think "La-la" is her nickname for Ayato because she does say it at other times than when he is around and there is the uplift in the tone that indicates it is questioning. It reminds me of how my Hong Kong friends both say and write "la!", which is essentially meaningless but just part of an idiomatic expression. I hope that helps! Good Eats
[edit]Thanks for your Good Eats edits this afternoon. I'd planned on coming back tonight and cleaning up the links, and appreciate your speed in taking care of this! Travisl 21:56, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
Keep up the good work on the NGE articles. There is a lot of speculation there and it needs sorting out. I was working on the NGE articles a while ago (I was the one who originally moved the main characters from List of characters in Neon Genesis Evangelion to their own page as per some Wikipedia policy I can't remember) but I got distracted by life. However I have now regained my interest in Wikipedia so I will be making edits here and there I guess. Anyway keep up the good work. –cheese-cube 09:05, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
Vandalism warnings
[edit]Hi, you warned Drunktrumpet for vandalism for making a few test edits to the Kaworu Nagisa article. I call them test edits because Drunktrumpet is a new user and hasn't made very many edits at all. A better warning would have been {{test1}} along with an explanation as to why the edit was inappropriate. Remember also to sign your posts on talk pages with 4 tildes ~~~~, especially when warning a new user who isn't going to know where the warnings are coming from. So, as a general note, try not to bite the newbies. Thanks. Leebo86 20:36, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
Fair Use rationales
[edit]Hey -- nice work adding all those Fair Use rationales... there's a problem with them, unfortunately. Although those rationales make standard disclaimers (no free replacement, doesn't affect the copyright holder, et cetera), none of them make an explanation as to why the individual image is being used... which is really the point of having FU rationales (see WP:FU, they're supposed to be individual). Anyway, I don't know if you had a particular attachment to those images or were just cleaning up in general, I just wanted to mention this. Mangojuicetalk 04:49, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
The Jim Rome Show
[edit]Thanks for rating the article. What would you suggest as improvements? I've got some ideas but some constructive criticism can't hurt. Also, had you planned on rating the other Rome-related articles? Willbyr (talk | contribs) 18:12, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
- It really needs some cleanup. I hope to help with that. There are three major problems with the article. It's too long (50kb), and many of it's other problems seem to come from that. Interviews, Emails, Classic Soundbites, Music and Sound Effects, Telephone calls, and and Regular Bits should probably be drastically reduced in size, merged into one section simply mentioning that it is common for Rome to use these genre's of devices, and anything from this page worth keeping moved to List of content and features on The Jim Rome Show. Really notable interviews; i.e. ones that were so revealing or controversial that they were mentioned in major media outside of the Jim Rome show, could be kept on the main page.
The Second major problem is that the article does not have an encyclopedic tone. It kind of reads like an FAQ instead of an encyclopedia article. In fact, a lot of what is in the guidelines at WP:BETTER could be applied to this article, especially the part on Peacock and Weasel Words.
Finally, the article has no citations or references in it whatsoever. Long-Term, anything in the article that can not be sourced has to go, per WP:CITE and WP:A. That is the part that probably should be focused on first, as it's the only one thats not a matter of opinion. I know its not a Radio show, but I think The Colbert Report is a good model for each of the three problems I have. Just one man's opinion. --CastAStone|(talk) 19:41, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
Se7en
[edit]There *is* a way to lock that section. It's called "page protection" ;) Note that the vast majority of editors who have added Kevin Spacey as John Doe are anons, but unfortunately we can't keep pages protected forever. On the flip side, though, at least this isn't a ten-times-a-day problem. There are enough editors watching the page that it seems to get fixed fairly quickly each time it happens, although I agree it'd be nice if we didn't have to keep fixing it.--chris.lawson 18:02, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
Re:It's not the size that matters....actually it is
[edit]No problem. It still needs some tweaking, better flow, and could be trimmed some more, but it's a major starting point. I removed something like 4600 characters, and since this plot has about 5000 characters, I'd say it was basically cut in half. But it still needs work. I think now the regular editors of the article can go in and "spruce" it up to be better quality. BIGNOLE (Contact me)
Good work on Rei Ayanami
[edit]I just wanted to say that I think you've done excellent work on the article. In particular I thought that culling the poem down to normal dialogue was a brilliant idea. Great work! Vvitor 17:47, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

Hello, Willbyr. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace. The image (Image:Buj-logo.jpg) was found at the following location: User:Willbyr. This image or media was attempted to be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media was replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. Please find a free image or media to replace it with, and or remove the image from your userspace. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 07:42, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (Image:White Moon.png)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:White Moon.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 21:15, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

Cerebus link deletion
[edit]In this revert you re-added a link that was deleted without explanation. While it is a shame that the previous editor didn't leave an edit summary explaining the reason, you might want to check deleted links before re-adding them. In this case, the original content is gone, replaced with what is either a parked domain or a domain squatter. Either way it's no longer a useful resource and deserved to be pulled. — Alan De Smet | Talk 04:06, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

WikiProject Evangelion: Drive to Good Article status
[edit]I've been being a little slow about this, but (check the project page) we need to start brushing up the Evangelion articles to the point that they are "Good Article" status (it doesn't matter if they get Featured or something, just that they're good enough that they theoretically could be at that standard). This means making sure that they are EXACTLY in accordance with all of wikipedia's rules and regulations (i.e. gutting them of all of our own Analysis; i.e. on the episode articles and Angel names and such). This doesn't actually concern me that much. (What are you planning Ikari?--Keel) --Vi Veri Veniversum Vivus Vici 20:49, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
- I've been busy working on "Project E" for a while but will be back shortly. --Vi Veri Veniversum Vivus Vici 03:05, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
Why did you remove my picture of the episode when it was completely unnecessary to do so? Tony Myers 20:31, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
- Would it be okay to upload a completely different picture for the episode article in its place and leave the Sachiel picture on the Angel article? Or I could just take a new 640x480 .png that's identical to your Sachiel image (which is scaled a little off 4:3 in the first place). If not, I guess I can live with it. Sorry; I'm just a consistency freak and I was aiming to have a fairly large and descriptive image in each episode article. Tony Myers 21:08, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
Misato Katsuragi (confusing)
[edit]It might just be the turns of phrase used that are confusing me. The article in general is kind of in-universe, but some turns of phrase that stumped me were: describing Misato and Shinji's relationship as an affinity, (doesn't that mean something like a friendship based on similarities?) then seeming to use that word to denote a sexually-tense relationship between them? And then seemingly trying to explain away the 'adult kiss' by saying this had multiple meanings... The "Misato and Shinji (and Asuka and Rei) in lemon fanfiction" part - well, I find it a little distasteful, and I'm also not sure how notable it is. In a wikiproject I'm involved in, WP:SM, we've removed discussion of the popular fan-pairings Ami/Makoto and Rei/Usagi. The rest of Misato Katsuragi is ok, although there is some interpretation in the article that could maybe do with citing. I'm also confused about this statement "Misato comes off as a very sensual woman, with a carefree attitude about her femininity." (bolded for confusion) What's that supposed to mean? Thanks for following this up, and congratulations on all your hard work on the images. :) -Malkinann 12:40, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
Sense and sensibility
[edit]Re: [1]. Actually, it could make sense if Kyoko's intentions were to use Asuka as a weapon, in which context 'poise' makes perfect sense. Consider that while it is true that "The Soviet Union and the USA poised ICBMs at each other", nevertheless at some point they had to "poise those ICBMs". --Gwern (contribs) 04:01 29 July 2007 (GMT)

Commons link
[edit]Are you talking about the icon in the top right hand corner of my main user page or the link that's in the userbox in my userbox section? BrokenSphereMsg me 18:12, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
I took my coding and replaced my name with yours, which is this:
<div style="position:absolute; z-index:100; right:10px; top:0px;" class="metadata" id="developer">{{click|link=commons:User:Willbyr|image=Commons-logo-en.svg|width=36px|height=36px|title=This user is also a member of Wikimedia Commons.}}</div>
When I tested it out on preview, the icon showed up in the right hand corner of the talk page and led to your Commons page; it also shows up on the upper right in your user page experimentally, so try that. I copied this from someone else who had multiple icons on the top right of their user page. BrokenSphereMsg me 18:31, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

Fair use image removal rationale
[edit]User:Durin has outlined his reasoning behind the removal of images in "list of" type articles here. BrokenSphereMsg me 18:49, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
Actually he does mention "Character images are being removed from character lists" User:Durin/Fair_use_overuse_explanation#Ways_in_which_this_is_being_appliedhere.
As for linking the images without actually displaying them - this probably will not work, resulting in orphans that will be eventually deleted if they're not used on any pages. I've upload many images that I link to without displaying them since they're fair use, like this: Image:BAAOAV Lee Gally.jpg. However if you look at the image page itself, it's only listed as being on the page which actually displays it, not counting my user space (fair use images can't be displayed in user space anyway). Since I also work on other character list pages, I'm not worried so much about those characters who have their own article space (e.g. the main Eva charas), but the more minor ones who don't. Durin's position as I understand it seems to be that character images only belong on that particular character's own article space, i.e. the character is notable enough to merit their own article. I've pulled many of my own uploads and speedy deleted them as part of an effort to reduce the # of fair use images on other anime article pages I work on, but suspect that I'll eventually end up having to gut most of my uploads in time. BrokenSphereMsg me 19:08, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
I've left 72.224.115.177 a note on their talk page explaining why they can't keep readding the character pics. If they keep continuing to do so, consider issuing warnings for disruptive edits if warranted if they keep ignoring requests to stop, but be careful about WP:3RR and giving the appearance of edit warring. BrokenSphereMsg me 04:26, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
Eva plot summary
[edit]I remember during the plot summary AfD, you said it couldn't really fit in the old Eva article because it'd be too long. Once all the franchise material is moved out to Neon Genesis Evangelion franchise, I think there will be room for including it, and it certainly is logical to put the plot summary in Neon Genesis Evangelion (TV). The plot summary was userfied so you know where to find it if you want to do that. --Gwern (contribs) 02:56 3 September 2007 (GMT)

Cerebus
[edit]I saw that you reverted back an edit to the Cerebus page about the "Women Reads Minds" being intentional. On the Cerebus discussion page I mentioned a letter from Dave Sim wherein I had asked him about it and he stated it was intentional. I assumed this was enough when I put it back in, but it looks like something thought otherwise. Should I make a copy of the letter and post somewhere? Any thoughts? Thanks! Margaret 22:16, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
- Hello again ~ I put a reference link up on the Cerebus page with the link going to a scan of the letter Dave sent me (sans my address of course). Hopefully that'll be enough. I tried printing out the Cerebus wiki article and reading though it for any needed updates, but got so bogged down in it (so huge!) that I gave up and went back to editing the Cerebus Wiki instead. :D Margaret 14:14, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
- I read your section on the Magnifier effect that Cerebus has, and it is better then what I could find from Dave Going Home questions "That was partly Cerebus’' "magnifier effect" (whatever is going on Cerebus will magnify it)." I'll see if I can dig anything else up. Margaret 02:44, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Characters of Evangelion.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Characters of Evangelion.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 06:00, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

I just the other day got... an LCL feeds was sent by my staff at 10 o'clock in the morning on Friday, I got it yesterday [Tuesday]. Why? Because it got tangled up with all these things going on the LCL feeds commercially.
- They want to deliver vast amounts of information over the LCL feeds. And again, the LCL feeds are not something that you just dump something on. It's not a big truck. It's a series of tubes. And if you don't understand, those tubes can be filled and if they are filled, when you put your message in, it gets in line and it's going to be delayed by anyone that puts into that tube enormous amounts of material, enormous amounts of material Kelly Denham (talk) 05:54, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

Asuka makeup
[edit]re Aleh Toxick's edits: unless I'm missing something, isn't a fact template pointless? The edits specifically mention the reference, that Eye Candy[4] book.
What's needed here isn't a reference but a consideration of whether it's worth mentioning (I am inclined to keep it, since Asuka-related stuff in Western media seems pretty rare) and whether the reference is accurate (which would require someone to get the book and check, or to trust Aleh to have been honest about his citation and quoting). --Gwern (contribs) 13:22 2 July 2008 (GMT)
- I'm inclined to keep it myself, but I'd say it needs to go in some kind of "outside NGE" kind of section. As far as needing a reference, since it's referring to a published work, it's technically unsourced OR until some posts some information about the actual content from the book...page #, ISBN, etc. Willbyr (talk | contribs) 03:52, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice
[edit]Hi,
As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.
We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.
You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.
We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Consensus poll on Rebuild of Eva 1.0
[edit]Folken keeps forcing his edits on the Rebuild of Eva 1.0 article and I keep reverting them to my version, and basically I feel that Folken is ordering us around even though he has no authority to do so because he is not an admin, and he didn't do much to help setting up these articles, only nitpicking on things we wrote. Be that as it may, I feel the only way to stop him from bullying us around is to make a formal vote at Talk:Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone#Summary length for consensus. Heck, vote against my position if you feel that is the proper course of action; the point is that Folken does not have the authority to single-handedly constantly be laying down decisions like this and such decisions should be made, I feel, with the support of the whole project. --Vi Veri Veniversum Vivus Vici (talk) 23:23, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
Disputed non-free use rationale for Image:Rei Ayanami.jpg
[edit]Thank you for uploading Image:Rei Ayanami.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Angr 14:45, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

The article Blurr has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Non-notable fictional character
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. TTN (talk) 17:49, 30 August 2019 (UTC)
A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Blurr is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Blurr until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.
Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. FoxyGrampa75 (talk) 00:35, 2 September 2019 (UTC)
