Winnie Nantongo (born 27 October 1998) is a Ugandan technology journalist, poet[1] and activist.[2][3][4] Her work in poetry is known for being “short” incorporating concepts of love, growth, identity, sexuality, anxiety and depression.[5]

Early life[edit]

Born in Kampala, Uganda, Nantongo grew up in Nansana, a town located on the main highway between Kampala and Hoima. She began writing at the age of eleven in her primary six and has described her younger self as a “very shy girl” who always kept to herself.[6] However, her social media presence started in 2012 on Facebook.[7]

Career[edit]

Nantongo’s career started in her form 4 vacation as an entertainment blogger before she transitioned to personal development blogging in 2019.[8] She has served as a digital content creator and influencer for several brands including MTN Uganda, aYo Uganda, Uganda Heart Institute, and Flip Africa, among others providing social media support and creating awareness about the different digital campaigns, product launches and other activities.

In March 2021, she independently published her debut poetry collection titled, 'The Lover and Her Human',[9] initially releasing it on Amazon and subsequently on various online distribution platforms. Next came her second prose and poetry collection ‘Dining with the Enemy' in 2023.[10][11][12][13]

Nantongo got elected to serve on the committee of Top Bloggers Uganda, an association uniting Uganda's top digital specialists in August 2021.

In July 2022, she started her journalism career as a technology reporter for PC Tech Magazine and shortly contributed to Mazima News.
