Xhemail Rexhepi, also known as Commandant Shqiponja, was a prominent commander of the National Liberation Army (NLA)[1] during the 2001 insurgency in Macedonia. He was recognized as a key figure in the struggle for greater rights and recognition for the Albanian community in the country.[2]

He was killed in an attack believed to have been carried out by supporters of Bajram Limani, who had been appointed as head of the branch where Rexhepi had previously served under his close associate Ali Ahmeti.[3]
