Uttar Pradesh [ edit ] Uttarakhand [ edit ] Presidential election [ edit ] An election was held on 15 July 2002 to elect the President of India . On 18 July 2002, the results were declared. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam became the 11th President by beating his nearest rival Lakshmi Sahgal .[6]

Vice-Presidential election [ edit ] An election was held on 12 August 2002 to elect the newly vacated post of Vice-President of India . Bhairon Singh Shekhawat defeated Sushil Kumar Shinde to become 11th Vice President of India.[7] Incumbent VP Krishan Kant did not contest the election and died before the election occurred.
