Since you seem to be a member of the Article Rescue Squadron. I'd like to introduce you this user Dream Focus if you haven't heard of him already. He's one of those that takes saving articles really seriously. Jhenderson777 (talk) 18:50, 11 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, though I would not contact him unless he showed interest in the article already. As you probably already know, according to Wikipedia:Canvassing, contacting editors for the sake of voting is considered disruptive. Anyhow, I've changed my vote for the article we've been working on, so now there is consensus for merging. At least it seems our work won't go to complete waste. —CodeHydro 00:43, 12 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I know about WP:Canvassing. I wasn't really introducing him for that particular article. Because I figured you try to help to save other articles too. I figure it's just good to share some similarities and know a few of your squadron members who work together on the same thing. Jhenderson777 (talk) 00:54, 12 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the suggestion; actually, I saw and worked with him just now as we rescued the article The Silver Ship and the Sea :) —CodeHydro 16:07, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Article Rescue Barnstar
For your amazing work on improving the Cairo International Model United Nations article while it's at AfD, making it a far better article than it was when it was first nominated, I award you this. SilverserenC 18:02, 16 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Qaumi[edit]

Nice work on the article. With some more content, you can go for DYK. --Ragib (talk) 00:40, 23 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I hadn't thought about doing that, though I may have to wait a little while on it as I am working on several other articles at the same time. Maybe I'll spam the DYK with 4 of my articles at the same time :) —CodeHydro 03:44, 23 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I expanded the article slightly, though mostly on the notes side. It seems that sources from just 5 years ago are showing signs of being outdated since the arrival of the Qawmi Education Board at that time greatly changed things around. Would you take a look at the notes I made on the Qawmi article? I'd like to know what you think. By the way, I just finished major expansion on sleep state misperception to get it promoted to DYK ;) (also, I am not putting the talkback template on your talk because you seem to be watching my talk already after reading the section below) —CodeHydro 04:27, 25 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I added the number of Madrasahs at different levels under the board. But there seems to be a misprint in the newspaper (ref: dstar1), since it mentions sanaria ammah level twice - once as higher secondary(?) and again as secondary. Can you please check the numbers from the newspaper and other sources? 4 million is a huge number of students for any education system, but it makes sense, since the poorest of the poor who can't afford to send their children to regular schools, usually send them to these local religious schools. --Ragib (talk) 05:24, 25 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, great idea! I didn't really understand what those numbers meant when I first read it until I saw your list. I reorganized it into a table and found a better source. I think the University of Oxford is much more reliable than dstar :) And I would have never guessed that "Befaqul Mudarressin" is the same as "Wafaq ul Madaris"... I thought they were two separate things at first, but noticed surprising similarities in the numbers of schools at each level and then slowly tried to pronounce them with my American tongue. Anyhow, now that I know this alternate name, it increases my options for research. *sigh* Why do I make things harder on myself by writing about subjects for which I speak not the language? :P —CodeHydro 13:58, 25 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The more I look at it, the more I think the "Network of Schools" section in Al-Jamiatul Ahlia Darul Ulum Moinul Islam is the Qawmi ed board and that the six-levels described in the Boro Madrasah article are the same six levels described in the Qawmi table. If that's the case, then the "beyond post graduate level" may actually not be a doctoral level but is rather the Tahfeezul Quran level. What do you think? —CodeHydro 15:09, 25 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Bengali alphabet does not have any character for the Arabic character "wao", which sounds somewhere between "Wa" and "Va". So, in Bengali people use either ওয়া (Wa) or বা (Ba or Be) to transliterate this arabic sound. This explains why you've seen both "Wafaq ul" and "Befaqul" there. --Ragib (talk) 21:42, 25 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article is actually in quite good shape. Perhaps you can take it to DYK now ... since it's well-referenced and somewhat detailed. --Ragib (talk) 21:42, 25 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Would you do the honors of nominating it? (May help to be endorsed by another?) I think a good hook is
... that the term "Qawmi" emerged from the word "qom" (meaning "the public")—stemming from the fact that Qawmi madrasahs reject state funding and instead rely on donations from the public?
and a good alt could be:
... that Qawmi primary education lasts six years, though it does not differentiate students by progressive grade levels?
CodeHydro 22:29, 25 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Nevermind, I'll nominate it. Thanks for the encoragement though —CodeHydro 19:23, 26 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Congrats on getting it DYK'd. The article is in great shape ... --Ragib (talk) 19:42, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks :) It wouldn't have been created were it not for the seed of information you provided at the Boro Madrasah talk page. The first bit of information pointed me towards the first scholarly sources, which in turn provided bits that pointed to more sources, and so on. —CodeHydro 19:49, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Al-Jamiatul Ahlia Darul Ulum Moinul Islam[edit]

Hi Codehydro! Any idea what's behind the IP editor (119... and 202...) who keeps on introducing the same unsourced "history" essay? The material that's being introduced could make good copy with a bit of editing, but the IP editor seems to be unwilling or unable to cite any sources. Since the history of the madrassah spans over 100 years he/she must surely be using some reference material. I'd like to assume good faith but the editors determination not to enter into discussion has left me baffled. -- Timberframe (talk) 17:52, 24 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • The IP is most likely associated with User talk:Bakrbinaziz whose account had been blocked for his stubborn editing. He seems to support the school as a former/current student if not work for the school, but that's my guess. I don't think the guy is necessarily bad, though apparently unable to understand Wikipedia policies. Moreover, I suspect his background and formal training seems to be faith-based (i.e. from single-source material like the Qu'ran or the school's homepage) rather than independent research based, thus he may lack the academic background for questioning primary sources and may lack the skill to look for information from outside sources. If my guess is correct, that could explain why he doesn't produce sources: he may simply not know how to search for them effectively. I could be wrong, but I am sympathetic with him despite my misgivings for his methods. Fortunately, he does seem to be using the article's talk page. I've learned not really to bother posting on his user talk, because he hardly looks at it (plus his IP may change before he ever sees the you have new messages note). Anyhow, I agree that there could be a lot of good information from the history he posted, though it needs to be reworked from a NPoV and properly sourced. I plan to look at the copy he posted on the article talk to see if I can mine anything out of it in a few days. —CodeHydro 00:57, 25 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The IPs are from Grameenphone's wireless Internet, which Bakr uses. That's why his IP changes a lot from time to time. I have pending-changed the article to guard against such ip edits. But as CodeHydro says above, Bakr has started to use the article talk page (at least after being reverted several times). --Ragib (talk) 01:14, 25 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That makes a lot of sense. If s/he's simply copying some english publicity blurb, but doesn't actually have much grasp of the language, that may explain why s/he is reluctant to respond or discuss; could be that what discussion has taken place is through a translator. And indeed it may be that s/he simply doesn't understand the principles in operation here. I've only come into this as a pending changes reviewer; at first I thought we were dealing with vandalism but the persistance suggested otherwise and you've confirmed my impression. I'll step back and leave you to do what you can with the content. I wonder if there's any mileage in recruiting another editor from, say the recent contibutors to the Bengal or Bangladesh portal, to try to mediate with our IP friend in a mutually intelligible language. -- Timberframe (talk) 08:49, 25 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You're right in that it isn't the "ribfest" itself that travels (they're all similar but not run by the same organization), but the ribbers. –xenotalk 14:37, 27 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your vote of confidence. Yeah, I usually avoid making unsourced statements, but now and then you run into details which perhaps are just so obvious that no sources bother to ever explain it. —CodeHydro 14:46, 27 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Canvassing[edit]

Ok, now you've crossed the line from clueless to disruptive. Canvassing for votes like that is completely unacceptable. J Milburn (talk) 14:24, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

They were on the transformer's project page. I'm not canvassing... canvassing is going to random people. —CodeHydro 14:25, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Read the policy page... What you're doing is unacceptable, and a failure to understand that is not going to let you get away with it. You can't approach a group, no matter who they are, and say "hey, go to x and vote y. I notice you've also done it on user talk pages. Stop it, now. J Milburn (talk) 14:27, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Then again, I could have made the word more neutral, let me do that —CodeHydro 14:27, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Sorry, I admit it was poorly thought out. I simply intended to point out that "decide by centralized discussion" could be an option, but was sloppy in implementing it. It's a new idea, so give me a break. —CodeHydro 14:36, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What does "merge as per centralised discussion" even mean? People can already propose a merge (or just go ahead and do it) without the need for a "centralised discussion". In any case, merging only makes any sense when there is a target, which you haven't actually proposed... J Milburn (talk) 14:34, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Because there are just so many articles, the complexity may make it unrealistic for the destination to be decided before the first AfD. —CodeHydro 14:36, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    • They don't all have to be merged to the same place... Again, it makes little sense to look at these together. The discussions are working fine independently. One of the strengths of AfD is that it has some closure- stuff actually gets dealt with. Your ideas concerning these nominations seem to be to leave them for even longer before anything actually happens. J Milburn (talk) 15:53, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Sleep state misperception[edit]

The DYK project (nominate) 00:02, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

I appreciate that you thanked me for my edits to Sleep state misperception. I haven't got that condition though I had more standard insomnia for a time. I have had problems with doctors/ health workers misdiagnosing me and being insensitive over it. When I saw large numbers of patients wrongly labelled hypochondriacs I thought I had to do something to reveal the truth. Proxima Centauri (talk) 16:25, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Transformers[edit]

From what I can see. Those voters love picking on those Transformers related articles. I would love to help but there seems to be a work together cliche of delete, delete, delete. I did mention I'd rather them be merged instead of deleted but you know... Jhenderson 777 17:35, 2 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

My main point of contention is that it's all happening too fast. DGG suggested that somebody could ask for a close of non-consensus for all the articles with a promise to renominate simply because it's unfair to attack them all at the same time... I would suggest that myself but I can't make that promise as I will be unavailable to do so... nonetheless, the transformers fiasco has inspired a new policy proposal idea at the village pump: WP:AFDPP. What do you think? —CodeHydro 18:51, 2 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good. I hope it works. I am not the one who is always against AFD's. But I think I am getting tired of hearing that's not perfectly sourced or it doesn't have sources to prove that it's notable so it must not be. It makes Wikipedia feel less like an encyclopedia of freedom. I think it's better to have a chance to expand Wikipedia then to keep AFDing every article that's not perfect for Wikipedia guidelines. It's just beginning articles. Tag it as Start Class or tag to improve the article or something. I wish somebody was good at finding sources in here because I most certainly am not. That is always the most hardest thing in Wikipedia. That's why Wikia is better in fictional information. They don't force things on you. You have your own freedom as long as it's constructive to it's topic. Jhenderson 777 19:20, 2 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Rescue request[edit]

Thank you for pointing out the deletion discussion. But I have a problem. The page on the "Eiffel Tower in popular culture" has been nominated for AfD (again). Because the page was kept after a discussion in 2007, that discussion is now closed. There is a rescue tag, but discussion is not possible. I have put my remarks on the discussion page.

Is this usual? --JHvW (talk) 23:49, 8 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion is possible, but you have to click the link in the deletion tag that says "Please share your thoughts on the matter at this article's entry on the...". Click on the link in the quest I just made. The rescue tag only links to the first discussion as it's not designed for multiple deletions. —CodeHydro 23:56, 8 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you again. Sometimes I have difficulty understanding these discussions and the proper way to go about them. The discussion on this subject was closed so quickly I had only just realised that discussion was possible (I believe the whole disussion was over in a week). It also seems that this article comes up for deletion regularly. It is not linked to the main article it is a part of. Is linking and rewriting a way to prevent this cycle of deletion requests? The fact that there are two tags on the top of the page may suggest that somebody is using some sort of search tool to look for these tags and nominate that article for deletion. --JHvW (talk) 08:07, 9 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Milton (game)[edit]

Couple of points here, Firstly, I was either on NPP or looking for DYK-able articles (can't remember which) when I came across the article. Who created it was not relevant, and I never took any sort of aggressive stance at any time, so to accuse suggest I violated BITE, I felt, was inappropriate. On the other hand, you've done a good job and I'm willing to withdraw the AFD (which I will do when I get to a PC or someone else/you can do citing this post), in good faith. Thirdly, if you manage to expand it fivefold in prose and solve the citation needed (and self-referencing ("Milton cover" etc)) issues, please do nominate it for a DYK.

Infobox festival merger[edit]

Hi! The redirect from Template:Infobox festival to Template:Infobox recurring event caused a number of transclusions to break – see e.g. the markup "" in Stratford Shakespeare Festival. Undoing the merge is probably not a good idea because this would break the transclusions that have been fixed in the meantime. Just to notify you to be careful with such things. I'll file a request for a bot to fix this. Cheers, ἀνυπόδητος (talk) 08:49, 27 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oops, I thought I checked for such things; I actually tried to code the template so that it could accept parameters from both infobox festival and infobox recurring event without conflict, but I guess I missed one. Such mergers of independently developed templates can get quite complicated... What's trickier is that these bugs don't appear immediately since the MediaWiki software doesn't convert wiki-markup to html for an article until a new edit is made on the article itself. Thus, bugs in a template don't reveal themselves on the article even if you refresh the page since edits made on the template do not trigger MediaWiki to update the generated html file that's stored for each article that uses the template. In effect, the bug you saw in the Stratford Shakespeare Festival article was invisible until somebody else edited the page after the merger. Thanks for catching that one! —CodeHydro 12:32, 27 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. I've had my problems with this MediaWiki "feature" as well... ἀνυπόδητος (talk) 12:45, 27 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

minor avatar characters[edit]

Since you are the one involved with creating the minor character article. I invite you to Talk:List of Avatar: The Last Airbender characters#Second consensus. − Jhenderson 777 23:51, 17 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Also the article Appa and Momo is being nominated for deleted here. Since you have edited on Avatar:The Last Airbender type articles on the past. I just figured you might want to weigh in. − Jhenderson 777 16:43, 30 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • I've commented on both discussions. I've already done a bit of research on Appa and Momo which has demonstrated clear notability on the Appa side and nearly sufficient notability for Momo. I don't have the time to rework the article yet, but I am fairly confident that I can get at least Appa to keepable shape before the AfD closes. Just in case I am unable to find the time to do so myself, feel free to begin expanding on the points that I addressed in the AfD without me. —CodeHydro 22:27, 30 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    • I would love to but I probably won't today because I am not feeling my best today. Be sure to find and include some good reception of the characters, that is key. Google is more your friend than mine. ;) − Jhenderson 777 00:33, 31 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You're doing a pretty good job with Appa, Out of curiosity are you going to try with Momo as well? Jhenderson 777 15:46, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I may attempt Momo some time in the future, but I'll be too busy for a while so Momo will have to just be merged for now unless somebody else is willing to pour a few hours into research. I think I'm going to end my work on Appa now since I think it's good enough to stand as is. I haven't at all looked at the "In the animated series" section much, but, since you've actually seen the show, would you mind doing that part for me? I can't invest the time to watch the whole series, so it would be difficult for me to write on that section. On a side note, "Appa" does not seem to be Japanese for Apple, though Momo is peach. —CodeHydro 05:55, 15 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
How about this, you find me sources for Momo and then link them to me and I will see with what I can do with the article if you are too busy to fix the Momo article.;) Jhenderson 777 19:42, 17 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

gold price chart[edit]

Hi there, I see you're a much more prolific contributor than I but I happen to be viewing the wiki on gold when I noticed a historical price chart that, at first glance, appeared to be very different from what my memory of gold prices told me. After viewing I noticed the scale was exponential rather than linear which struck me as unusual and perhaps less helpful to the average viewer, and also could present gold as a much more stable investment compared to actual values given the smoothness of the scale. For reference, the chart on the gold wiki and a typical 100 year chart (both inflation adjusted) I'm not trying to claim you have done anything improper, but I am curious as to why the scale is exponential rather than linear since price scales are typically linear, could you fill me in on what i'm missing here? thanks for your time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tunafizzle (talkcontribs) 01:09, 27 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Tunafizzle: Glad you asked! To answer, notice how your example plots only adjusted prices whereas my chart also plots nominal (non-adjusted) prices in addition to the above. Though fine for plotting inflation-adjusted prices, a linear scale would be inappropriate for plotting nominal prices over any duration long enough for significant inflation. For example, given the thumbnail size of the chart as shown on Gold#Investment, it would take a change of ~$18 to shift the line by a single pixel on a linear scale. Thus, even though the increase of $14.33 meant a dramatic 68 percent change in 1934, a linear scale may show no increase at all. Secondly, though you are right that a linear scale can be easier to comprehend, a logarithmic scale is more useful for comparing relative change. For example, a hypothetical $50 price drop looks deceptively the same whether you started with $100 or $1000, even though the loss suffered by an investor would be 10 times bigger in the former (50% vs. 5%); in contrast, on a log scale, an investment gain of 10% looks just a sharp whether the initial price were $1 or $10000. Of course, an alternative could be to plot adjusted prices on a linear scale and nominal ones on a separate scale, however, I think having two scales could cause even greater confusion than what you experienced. Does this answer your question? —CodeHydro 19:55, 30 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Lua[edit]

Thanks for showing interest in Lua templates. :) We have a very wide range of things that need converting, from the relatively simple to the insanely complicated. Here are some examples of modules:

As for lists of modules to convert, we have Wikipedia:Lua/To do, although there are only a few modules there, and there are many many more that need converting. You can convert any template you feel would benefit from it, although be aware that there won't be any performance benefit from converting very simple templates, especially now that we have HHVM. If you want a good place to start, then your own Template:N-life might be a good place. If you want something that's a bit more widely transcluded, then you could try one of the templates on the to do list, or one of the following:

  • Template:Asbox - the meta-template that renders stub templates. Surprisingly complicated for its length, and used on 1,800,000 pages.
  • Template:If empty - very simple, but would be much more efficient in Lua.

Also, if you're looking for a list of templates ordered by complexity, you can find it at User:Darkdadaah/Parserfunctioncount, although it needs updating. Be careful to check that the templates are actually used before you convert them - some may be better off brought to WP:TFD rather than converted to Lua. — Mr. Stradivarius ♪ talk ♪ 15:38, 23 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

A bit of praise and a request.[edit]

Hey Codehydro, awesome work with the brackets. The US Open testcase bracket looks fantastic!

I was just wondering if you could possibly take a request to make up a bracket? You're the only person whose User Page I've looked at that can develop templates. :)

I've spent a few hours (followed by a ragequit) trying to create a 5 Round Bracket, containing Byes (which when not containing data aren't shown) and seeds. Here is the current 4 Round Bracket template I often try and utilise (basically I've been trying to make a 64 team bracket out of copying and editing two 32s), but more often than not I end out deleting the wrong line here and there and the whole bracket ends out like this [2]. :P

But yeah, I'd be extremely grateful if you could assist me with this! - J man708 (talk) 17:50, 27 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • @J man708: I came up with a solution that allows you to use seeds with Module:RoundN without impacting performance to non-seed users: RDseed. You'd have to specify the matches to hide using the |skipmatch= parameter of RoundN, but that shouldn't be overly difficult. See the doc page for RDseed and Module talk:RoundN/testcases/4. —CodeHydro 01:04, 28 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Worked awesomely, man. The only problem I came across was caused by me and not the module itself. Hahaha. Typical human error. Anyway, just curious, as to how many rounds this bracket can actually successfully run. I got it to work with 64 teams, I believe the tennis one is 128 from memory? (I'm not a huge tennis buff, but I think most majors are 128?) Provided they'd fit and it wouldn't look stupid, can it run 256, 512 or even 1024? How high can it go? :P
    - J man708 (talk) 07:28, 30 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • @J man708:Given unlimited memory, the limit is the biggest integer that is power of 2 available in the Lua language, which I believe is 2^46 or about 70 trillion. But because Wikipedia limits us to 50MB of memory per page, probably about 1024 (or 2048 if you skip a lot of matches). In any case, the real limit is in how much advertising money the sport can make as the cost of hosting an sporting event involving a number of teams anywhere near the memory limit is probably beyond the reach of even Bill Gates.... By the way, I simplified the match skipping on your template to use a feature which is not currently documented (it's one of the things I wanted to announce when the module goes Beta, so you're getting a special preview ;)). Also, I hope I didn't create a edit conflict as I didn't notice you may still be working on that article. —CodeHydro 14:16, 30 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hahaha! Awesome! I can't think of any direct knockout tournaments requiring that many anyway. The highest I can think of are the Grand Slams... But yeah, no edit conflicts or issues (except for that ping not actually notifying me) :P - J man708 (talk) 17:35, 30 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please be more careful with editing major modules like Module:Asbox, especially without double-checkiong your work immediately. Your reent edit actually prevented all stubs from being categorized. Knockout template problem[edit]

Hey Codehydro, I've come across an issue with the Round N template 1995–96 NSL Cup. Adelaide City and Canberra Cosmos played their Round of 16 fixtures and were given a bye past the Quarter Final stage straight into the Semi Finals. Is there anyway that a line can be drawn to represent the journeys of both teams from the Round of 16 to the Semi Finals? Cheers. - J man708 (talk) 03:40, 14 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@J man708: I modified 1995–96 NSL Cup to use an unreleased Beta feature. Is that what you want? (PS: If you want more details, you'll have to wait until we officially go into Beta and the doc page is updated with the new Beta features.) —CodeHydro 15:16, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@J man708: Well, not quite perfect. I have plans for adding another node_function{} that would make the line straight rather than bend outwards, but RoundN's development is on hold for now as I'm on a higher-priority project. Anyhow, I thought the same thing about making them Quarter Finals. Also, technically the Round of 16 is a round of 12... is it really officially called a Round of 16? —CodeHydro 15:27, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Nah, that one appears to have been a "First Round". Already fixed that up. I guess it makes sense. I must've just copied it over from a previous page and used it as a template. Oh well. I like how the line is at the moment, but I'm sure others will have differing opinions. Hahaha. Once again, thanks a bunch! - J man708 (talk) 15:35, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@J man708: I just noticed that the template was manually bolded and that the scores were manually summed. Cleaned it up for you. The only difference is that intermediate games are not bolded and have a thinner border between them. Do you mind these changes, or would you like me to add an option to auto-bold all intermediate rounds even when the +sum switch is used? —CodeHydro 15:44, 17 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I did that thinking that most brackets showed the winner's scores bolded in each individual leg, which apparently isn't the case. I think that the current set up is fine. I just must've had a senior moment or some shit. It's good to know an idiot like myself could figure the new template system out and work out a way to make that work. But yeah, I don't mind the changes at all, Hydro. Whatever you think would be better off? You make coding sound easy. :P - J man708 (talk) 15:50, 17 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Don't beat yourself up. It's on me for not updating the doc page, which does not talk about node functions nor anything about the +sum switch. Also, your confusion probably came from how individual legs are bolded when the final score box is not a sum of the previous boxes, such as in Module talk:RoundN/testcases/5. In tennis, it is the total number of sets won that determine who wins, not the sum of the scores. Or let's put it this way: let's say a round of tennis has 3 sets, and player A scored 99, 0, 0 for each set and player B scored 0, 1, 1; team B wins even though team A has a much higher sum. In your case, it really doesn't who won each leg since it's all about the sum of the score. In short, the bold intermediate legs only when winning that leg matters more than how many points were scored in that leg. —CodeHydro 16:17, 17 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Still though, you would've thought I'd have figured that shit out by now? :P Cheers Hydro! - J man708 (talk) 17:34, 17 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Asbox[edit]

Hi! I'm trying to adapt Module:Asbox to Latvian Wikipedia. I'm not so good at Lua, so I have some minor problems. So my question is - is it possible to set new parameter (args.biography), so if it is set (that is, in stub template there is |biography=yes), there is another string instead of this one:

Buffer'This':_(args.subject):_(args.article or 'article'):_(args.qualifier)' ',--space ' is stub.',

The desired result would be something like this:

if (args.biography == yes) then Buffer'This one':_(args.subject):_(args.article or 'biography'):_(args.qualifier)' ',--space ' is quite small stub.', else --here goes the original string

You can make any edits here. The code starts with Buffer'Šis ar':_(args.subject):_(args.article there --Edgars2007 (talk/contribs) 09:54, 24 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Edgars2007: You don't need to add a new parameter. All you need to do use set the subject parameter to biography and use the qualifier parameter for more detail, like so:

Demo categories: Category:biography | Category:biography| *Codehydro | Category:Stub message templates needing attention|SCodehydro | Category:Stub message templates needing attention|NCodehydro | Category:Stub message templates | Category:Stub message templates without images

Do you understand? —CodeHydro 15:19, 24 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • PS: If Latvian grammar is different, just remember that you can put almost anything as subject or qualifier. Subject goes before "article" and qualifier goes after, i.e. if you want, you can flip them and put what normally is a subject in the qualifier param and the qualifier in the subject param. For example:

Demo categories: Category:Stub message templates needing attention|CCodehydro | Category:Stub message templates | Category:Stub message templates without imagesCodeHydro 15:28, 24 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I understand, but that won't work for Latvian. For biographies we have quite different text. Including This and stub part. That's why we need some more parameters (in this case - one more), than you have. --Edgars2007 (talk/contribs) 17:18, 24 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Edgars2007: where is the template for biographies? I don't see a template asbox in the latvian wiki... show me example of both. Until I see exactly how they look different, I can't help. In other words, give a me a sample code with all sample parameters and then give me a full final string that you want rendered, that is:

should produce: "This A B is a C stub D"--replacing paramX and letters with what you think should be used. —CodeHydro 15:32, 25 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

should produce: "Šis ar Latviju saistītais raksts ir nepilnīgs". This one works fine now.
For biographies:

should produce: "Šī ar Latviju saistītā cilvēka biogrāfija ir nepilnīga". --Edgars2007 (talk/contribs) 15:43, 25 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Edgars2007:I don't speak the language, but I'm guessing the problem lies in the plural versus singular form.... why not rewrite the line to "Šis latviešu biogrāfiskais raksts ir nepilnīgs" or something like that?

You don't see English wiki using "These Lativian biographies are stubs"... each stub tag should be to each article by itself... if Latvian wiki has an existing stub template that does not follow this standard, then perhaps you shouldn't encourage it but instead put some kind of note on the bad template and said that it is being depreciated and that others should rewrite the stub notices to match the new form? —CodeHydro 16:30, 25 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Latvian and English language are quite different. It isn't so easy, your suggested form (or anything else, which uses the same words as in the standart (Šis, aizmetnis)) won't work. You can just tell me, how to include if (args.biography == yes) (or something similar) part in the code, I would be able to do everything else myself, I guess. --Edgars2007 (talk/contribs) 16:44, 25 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Edgars2007: Look at second example in lv:Moduļa diskusija:Asbox/Testi--is that what you are looking for? I edited the code as you requested, though I would suggest a different parameter name other than biography to make it more generic... for example, plural or singular = yes. All you are changing are justa few endings which I imagine should apply to things other than biographies. —CodeHydro 21:43, 25 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Forgot to say THANKS! No, biography = yes is just fine, because it's not singular/plural thing, it's really only for biographies.
BTW, why this isn't working?
:_in'Š%s':_(args.subject):_(args.article or '%s'):_(args.qualifier):_out' ' :_' ir nepilnīg%s. Jūs varat dot savu ieguldījumu Vikipēdijā, [' :format(unpack(yesno(args.biography) and {'ī', 'biogrāfija', 'a'} or {'is ar', 'saistītais raksts', 's'})),
I just added one more string checking. It isn't returning good results. --Edgars2007 (talk/contribs) 07:29, 29 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Edgars2007: You're welcome. And it doesn't work because args.article or '%s' is conditional. In other words, the or '%s' part is only read if the |article= parameter is not used. You samples all use the article parameter. Edit the test cases to not use the article param and you may have better luck. —CodeHydro 22:59, 29 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I knew I was doing something silly :) Thanks. Was able to convert all but one stub template, which had too different wording, but it's fine :) --Edgars2007 (talk/contribs) 22:46, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Module:RoundN query[edit]

Hey Hydro, I messaged you quite some time ago about knockout competition bracket templates... Well, I have another question for you. The 1987 NSL Cup tournament contained single knockout matches, and a home and away final match. Also, the lack of information available for this topic makes the page exceptionally bland looking, I know. :P But anyway, is there a command that I can input which will allow for a two match final, single match knockout system, while maintaining teams automatically entering into the second round of the template? Thanks a bunch! - J man708 (talk) 01:30, 20 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Nevermind! With a bit of tinkering with it, I finally figured it out! - J man708 (talk) 01:37, 20 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for July 13[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Google (verb), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Needle in a haystack. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

ThoughtAudio Review Request[edit]

I am seeking independent and neutral viewpoints on the article ThoughtAudio, which is being considered for deletion. If you have a few minutes to review it, I would appreciate your article contributions and opinion on the decision as to whether it merits being retained and improved, or deleted. ThoughtAudio was targeted by the same editor that made a failed attempt to delete the wikiquote article Michael Scott Gallegos. There are only 3 reviews/votes so far. I am hoping that a minority viewpoint as to the worthiness of the article will not prevail. My work is mainly in the creation of new wikiquote articles @ELApro and time is rarely spent in unproductive controversy. I am a long time editor for Wikipedia, but have not created many articles here. I would much appreciate your advice and/or contributions with regard to the process. ELApro (talk) 23:11, 6 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Xander, thank you so much for your participation in this matter. I was not aware of the false "Notability" debate until it hit me so hard and I began giving it time after being targeted by Ningauble. Seems that people are awfully anxious to be rid of "minor," but valuable, pieces of humanity's knowledge base by definition and rule. Guess I may become involved, although I tend to keep my head buried in the popularization of the history of science and mathematics (and interweaving these with the humanities) at Wikquotes. Extremely impressed with your multi-talents in the arts, literary and programming fields. You seem to be approaching polymath status, and I admire you for your good works. I also admire your mission statement, "Even though I love languages, I study them in order to shatter them. ...illuminating all creation... in every dimension..." and your creative writing... "You're loved for revel, more than diamond rare. ...Transparency lets sunshine through from Sol— A warmth profuse in your interior." I would appreciate the opportunity to place some of your writing at Wikiquotes (maybe stir up another "Notability" battle?). Keep up with your art work (I am a believer that the creation of art and music contribute to both the extenison and enhancement life, time well invested), e.g., Nude Figure. Never stop exploring your potentials. You are a brave man.

Star Trek Timelines Wiki[edit]

Hi Codehydro, I am Admiral Titan (Now STT Titan) on the Star Trek Timelines wiki. We just moved to Gamepedia startrektimelines.gamepedia.com. I thought id let you know in case you got your charging port fixed or play via Facebook anymore. (My user page on that wiki is: startrektimelines.gamepedia.com/User:STT_Titan) Have a good <insert time of day when read>, Admiral Titan (talk) 03:51, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Codehydro, Now I'm "Titan" on the new wiki, https://stt.wiki (since February 2017). If you want to drop by, we have someone questioning one of the templates you made, and how it works. Also, with the new site, we made it so there were much more relaxed limits on expensive parser functions (100->250) and expansion depth (40->60) per page. Please let me know what you think on my talk page: https://stt.wiki/wiki/User_talk:Titan. Thanks, Admiral Titan (talk) 21:20, 17 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Admiral Titan: Your wiki's abuse filter blocked my username and my ip from editing all pages because I attempted to post an external link on a talk page. You should adjust your abuse filter policies because I can't even contact you on your talk page on stt.wiki. You should adjust the policy to allow external links on talks and to allow blocked users to post on talk pages. Also, I suggest you give User:CodeHydro on your wiki some user rights because templates such as ItemX are edit-protected, which would prevent me from maintaining them. —CodeHydro 14:02, 21 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

JavaScript RegExp problem[edit]

Hey Codehydro, would it be a good idea to include seeds in the Module:RoundN model. For example, like in the table below. In a lot of sports, seeds matter (because of homecourt advantage and match-ups). --H-Hurry (talk) 22:36, 16 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for March 15[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Galactic quadrant (Star Trek), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Delta (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
