Deleting well referenced material as copyright violations is absolutely appalling.[1] Some of these "violations" are no more than one sentence!

This fanaticism by these "self-appointed [copyright] guardians"[2] makes any prolific editor a target.

Wikipedia:Article Incubator

Hi Okip. I note that you did some good work with the Article Incubator when it was first set up, but then you stopped. I'm looking into the incubator as concerns have been raised about it so I'd be interested to learn why you stopped being involved, yet carried on with WP:RESCUE. What do you feel are the essential differences between the Incubator and Rescue, and why do you prefer to continue with Rescue but not Incubator? SilkTork *YES! 19:12, 30 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm flattered that I could bring you out of retirement just to carry on the battle. FYI - The enormous collapsed table you added to the oppose section has broken the numbering in that section. You might want to take a look. SnottyWong comment 16:36, 23 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Take it easy

Hi! I don't know you, but I just wanted to give some friendly advice that you might want to relax a bit with your edits to the ARS talk page. Your recent few edits seemed like they wouldn't do much but cause more drama, and came awfully close to uncivil personal attacks.

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. Users are expected to collaborate with others and avoid editing disruptively.

In particular, the three-revert rule states that:

  1. Making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24-hour period is almost always grounds for an immediate block.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you continue to edit war, you may be blocked from editing without further notice.

For the record, I have no interest in all in getting you blocked, but I don't see why you keep trying to stop a productive discussion for personal grudges.--Yaksar (let's chat) 00:19, 2 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You were a significant contributor to the rescue template, so you were notified

Per section 3 of the guidelines when nominating a template for deletion/discussion, (Wikipedia:Templates for discussion), "it is considered civil to notify the creator and main contributors of the template that you are nominating the template." I simply notified a few users who contributed significantly to the template, per the revision history for the page— Located Here. User:Okip, you were a significant contributor to the template. There was no "canvassing", "selective canvassing", etc., and it is very inappropriate to insinuate such. I followed the instructions. Period. A notification that the Templates for Discussion discussion (oy, repetition) has been taken to a deletion review discussion. The Article Rescue Squadron was notified, and as notifications to previous involved parties isn't normal practise, I and a few ARS members agreed that, in the interests of transparency and fairness, we should let everyone know...hence this talkpage message ;).

If anyone has an issue with me sending these out, do drop me a note on my talkpage. Regards, Ironholds (talk) 10:31, 28 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A structural solution to good-faith deletion battles

Would you look over Wikipedia:Deletions and Openness and see what you think? I agree that civility is part of the problem, but I really think it will be easier to reverse this trend using software, rather than "excommunicating" the quality-control teams from the project. --HectorMoffet (talk) 08:02, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sockpuppetry

You have been blocked from editing for a period of two weeks for abusing multiple accounts. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.

I am also going to bring the matter of your multiple socks to the admin's noticeboard. If you wish to respond to the thread there, you can do so on this talk page and me (or another editor) will copy your comments over. — Coren (talk) 15:16, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Oh dear, Ikip/Okip, why you do this? I liked you as an editor. --Cyclopiatalk 15:38, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Was he blocked for evading a block with a multiple account or for malicious editing with a second account? A shame, he added some good content Jenova20 (email) 16:08, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
As far as I know, he was not under any extant sanctions. The block is for participating in process (in particular, XfD) with multiple accounts which is not allowed since it compromises consensus. — Coren (talk) 16:13, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I see. That's a shame as i found User:Dragdrag to be a competent and friendly contributor. Hopefully he will learn from this and come back with a spring in his step. Thanks Jenova20 (email) 16:21, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Did he use more than one account at a time? Special:Contributions/Dragdrag shows he was active just one day there on 17 October 2012. Didn't he ask previously for his Wikipedia password to be scrambled since he was spending too much time on it? Where is the sockpuppet investigation at? He didn't seem to be using his main account much at all that year Special:Contributions/Okip and not on the same day or same areas that this other account was at. Dream Focus 20:06, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
    • Alternating between abusive socks on different days is still socking, and pretending to be different editors to game the system is still dishonest. Doing so with multiple socks over years is... well, let's just say that the current AN thread isn't heading in an "unblock" direction. — Coren (talk) 20:17, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Per the current consensus at WP:AN, I've extended this block to indefinite. That doesn't necessarily mean permanent, so keep the conditions of WP:OFFER in mind. Mark Arsten (talk) 20:24, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You really ought not to have extended the block before the discussion was closed. No need as it still had weeks to run. Make's it look like the perma ban is a fait accompli. Appalling way to treat such a legendary editor as Okip. FeydHuxtable (talk)
Well, I agree an indef block looks more punitive than anything else (after all, how is an account block going to prevent socking?) but years of socking used to sway consensus are a very, very serious infraction. I hope Okip gets it and accepts a WP:OFFER. --Cyclopiatalk 22:10, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It wasn't "years of socking used to sway consensus". He had three sock accounts, one he just started last month, another he used for one day in the month before his latest one was created, and another that hasn't been used since 2009. If he had used any of them at the same time, then it would be a serious problem. Are we punishing him for something done over three years ago, or one of the more recent minor things? Indef ban seems rather harsh either way. Dream Focus 23:53, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know. I try not to reason in "friends vs foes" terms. I felt close to Okip as an editor, still socking is a very big no-no in my book. Also socking is a stupid thing to do, given that sooner or later, especially if you use it in controversial debates, you are going to be caught, and put yourself in deeper trouble. --Cyclopiatalk 09:58, 7 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to see this - but consensus says banned for now.

Okip - I personally am very sorry to see the outcome here, but after discussion at AN here, it seems pretty obvious that the community has decided you need to take a break for a while. I strongly encourage you to read over the Wikipedia:Standard offer and plan on returning in the not too distant future. I've seen you do some wonderful things for the both ARS, and Wikipedia in general, and hope you'll weather this bump in the road. Best of luck to you in all. — Ched :  ?  21:28, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Agree with Ched, wholeheartedly. Hope to see you back soon -you did mistakes, but you can show you're a great editor again --Cyclopiatalk 21:43, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I think its a block not a ban, small comfort I know but most people are arguing for a long break not a ban. Spartaz Humbug! 02:10, 9 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
