File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:Sarfraz_Manzoor.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. feydey (talk) 23:08, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Conservatives-SayeedaWarsi.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Conservatives-SayeedaWarsi.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 21:41, 27 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:S_Hashwani.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:S_Hashwani.JPG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 21:43, 27 February 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 21:43, 27 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Best-one.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Best-one.JPG. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 21:44, 27 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked

[edit]
You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for repeatedly uploading images with false licenses despite numerous warnings. If you believe this block is unjustified, you may contest this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. -- Flyguy649 talk 17:21, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

- Can someone also explain to me what is meant by an indefinate block ? (Does that mean I cant ever edit again) ?

Indefinite does not mean infinite it just means until an admin is happy that the issue you were blocked for will not recur. Nev1 (talk) 18:28, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Nev, Does anyone know how long this block will last, or when an admin may become satisfied that this won't recur ? Sansonic (talk) 18:37, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Chances are you will have to explain exactly what you did wrong, and promise not to do it again. That may or may not be enough, though I doubt it, since copyright problems are one of the most serious problems on the project. The fact that you were warned many times before seems to be the main reason that you got an indef block. If you were to voluntarily agree to a complete ban from image uploads, I have little doubt that you would be unblocked. Sodam Yat (talk) 18:48, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I was only given one warning and that was by Feyday. I also think that I should have been given a temporary (eg 24hour) block first as a warning. I am also now pressuming that this block is forever.Sansonic (talk) 01:14, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I count nine notifications about source problems on this page, with another seven in your archive. Of those sixteen, fourteen of them have been deleted since then. While they were not warnings, most people, seeing that often, would understand that they are doing something wrong. At this point, the block is forever, but as I said before, you can change that. Simply acknowledging your mistake won't do it alone, but it is a good start. Sodam Yat (talk) 06:18, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think you understand why what you did was bad. You were breaking the law. Unfortunately, since we are all fairly anonymous, the responsibility for it falls with Wikipedia itself. If users did not report and try to stop it, the people that actually own the images could sue Wikipedia, and that could destroy the encyclopedia forever. I truly do hope you get unblocked, and am willing to help, but so long as you persist in this attitude of playing the victim and not acknowledging your mistakes, there's nothing else to do. Sodam Yat (talk) 16:13, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Images which I uploaded were allowed for non commercial use/educational use, so what I did wasn't against British Law. However, many images that I uploaded were against Wikipedia rules, I now understand that not all non commercial use/educational use photographs are free for use on Wikipedia. I was also wrong to add false tags to some images. Thank You Sodem, for your willingness to help me. Sansonic (talk) 23:22, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

  • Sansonic, sad to see you end up getting yourself blocked again. To get unblocked, you need to acknowledge that you were repeatedly uploading images in violation of copyright, and you must pledge to only upload images in accordance with Wikipedia's image policies. And don't complain about the actions of other editors, see WP:NOTTHEM. Fences&Windows 14:15, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • As always Fences, thanks for your advice. I was hoping that you could advise me and I am lucky that you have seen this. I do acknowledge uploading images that were only for non commercial use, putting the wrong tag on images and not fully understanding copyrights. I have never knowingly wanted to upset or offend anybody, by uploading images or otherwise. I am sorry for any wrong that I have done, these were mistakes and nothing done on purpose. Due to the complex rules of image uploading, I doubt that I will want to upload any pictures again. The fact that some images I uploaded took so long to delete made it feel like I did nothing wrong. Therefore, I think that all new images uploaded on Wikipedia should be approved by an admin before they are allowed to be put up. I know that there may be too many to approve, but this could be done systematically with random images being chosen for checks. Sansonic (talk) 17:12, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    • If you'd like to formally request an unblock using the template, please do so after the weekend. I don't think that it would be well received by others if I unblocked you now. An acknowledgement of your mistakes in image uploading is welcome. Your wariness in further image uploading is wise: if you are going to upload any in future, then carefully read Wikipedia:Image use policy, and if in doubt seek advice from me or others. Wikipedia is a balance between trusting people and monitoring them, it might well be the case that there needs to be greater scrutiny of image uploads, but that takes a lot of time, and might delay uploaded images appearing on the site. Fences&Windows 21:54, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

I have acknowledged my mistakes and previous problems, I also doubt that I will want to upload any pictures in the near future. I have sat out a reasonable block period and I have said sorry for any problems that I caused to other users.

This does not convince me that you understand the reason for your block, our image use policy and/or the concept of copyright in general.  Sandstein  18:24, 8 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Will you accept a 6 month restriction from uploading files to Wikipedia and/or Commons? (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 13:46, 8 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I have in the past uploaded one or two fair use logos and they havn't been deleted because they are just that, fair use. But in terms of uploading pictures, I can have a restriction for 6 months if you say so. But, I have discussed with another admin on this page that another way is for me to simply seek advice before each upload, for the near future. Either way I am now more cautious of uploading images. Sansonic (talk) 17:28, 8 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I have now unblocked this account. For the next six months if you want to upload an image then you can check with me or seek advice at Wikipedia:Editor assistance/Requests. This will give adequate time to become completely familiar with the WP:IUP. Note that if you do upload further images in violation of their licenses, you are likely to be blocked for an extended period. Fences&Windows 22:32, 8 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

British Pakistanis

[edit]

Hi there, I've just reviewed British Pakistanis against the GA criteria and unfortunately it doesn't meet them at this time. I've left a more detailed review at the review page. I would very much recommend, after dealing with any issues I've mentioned, that you take the article to peer review before another nomination. Please let me know if you have any questions. Regards, --BelovedFreak 13:13, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank You for taking the time to review the article, I appreciate the time that you have put in. I have also taken note of the advice you have given, I hope to do deal with some of the issues myself and let other Wikipedians help with several other issues, it will take time to get right but im sure that it can be done. Thanks, Sansonic (talk) 11:15, 18 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You requested some help with Copy Edits. I started with the lead section, which im my mind neeeded a complete rewrite to summarize the article. The lead is more traditional now, but really could use more work. My problem is cultural as I am a Californian with little understanding of your topic. This can be a blessing and a curse, as sometimes a fresh set of eyes without cultural bias can be effective. However, I'm a bit handicapped by a lack of context for some of the content. I suggest that you take further steps to incorporate the changes suggested at the GA review. I am happy to help you with questions of style and grammar, just leave a message if you need help. Please feel free to revert my changes if you don't feel these are improvements. Cheers! --Kevin Murray (talk) 22:47, 23 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank You for rewritting the lead section. Having little knowledge of this particular topic should be a benefit because, as you say, it allows the article to keep a neutral point of view. I plan to start work on the GA review list sometime soon. Sansonic (talk) 18:57, 24 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

British Pakistanis

[edit]

Hi. I'm not sure why, but you keep changing the capitalisation of Salman Rushdie's name to "rushdie" in the British Pakistanis article, such as with this edit. Is there any reason for this? Anyway, well done for finding sources for the article and generally improving it - keep up the good work. Cordless Larry (talk) 20:12, 22 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, the article has been changing quite rapidly and when I have been editing It has often been an old version which I have added too. I have now corrected the spelling. Thanks --Sansonic (talk) 20:19, 22 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Great, thanks. Cordless Larry (talk) 23:16, 22 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You might also need to take more care with edits such as this, where you removed the URL and title from the Ager reference. I presume that this was a mistake rather than intentional. Cordless Larry (talk) 23:58, 23 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The Peer review suggests that Google Book previews are "incomplete and unstable", making bad permanent references. This was the reason why I removed the link to Google Books.--Sansonic (talk) 12:25, 24 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
OK, well removing the URL made sense in that case, though the title should have remained. Cordless Larry (talk) 17:21, 31 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Copy edit

[edit]

Hello, as requested at Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Requests the article British Pakistanis has been copy edited. My comments are: I feel there are still some POV issues with this article, I have not made many changes in this respect but you may wish to have a read through and see if you agree. If you intend to send the article to GA or FA then the article's writing style will need to fully comply with WP:NPOV. Best wishes Pol430 talk to me 18:08, 26 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, an old GA review shows that the article passed the NPOV check. But the article has changed since then and I will still have a look through. Thank you for taking the time to copy edit this article though.--Sansonic (talk) 14:17, 27 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as British Pakistanis, but we regretfully cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from either web sites or printed material. Part of this article appears to be a copy from http://www.bury.gov.uk/CommunityAndLiving/FaithsBeliefsAndReligions/CelebrationOfBury/PakistaniCulture.htm, and therefore a copyright violation. The copyrighted text has been or will soon be deleted. While we appreciate contributions, we must require all contributors to understand and comply with our copyright policy. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators are liable to be blocked from editing.

If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under license allowed by Wikipedia, then you should do one of the following:

It may also be necessary for the text be modified to have an encyclopedic tone and to follow Wikipedia article layout. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.

If you would like to begin working on a new version of the article you may do so at this temporary page. Leave a note at Talk:British Pakistanis saying you have done so and an administrator will move the new article into place once the issue is resolved. Thank you, and please feel welcome to continue contributing to Wikipedia. Happy editing! Cordless Larry (talk) 14:31, 30 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Why is there rather a large copyright tag in the Cuisine section? (the article is due a GA review quite soon) If any perceived copyrighted material has now been deleted then can this tag not therefore be removed?--Sansonic (talk) 16:53, 31 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
My understanding is that it has to remain in place until an administrator takes a look at it (I think they have to remove the copyrighted material from the article history). The article has been listed at Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2010 December 30, so it should attract the attention of an administrator soon. Cordless Larry (talk) 17:02, 31 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sansonic!

It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 02:32, 21 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Kashmir Crown Bakeries for deletion

[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Kashmir Crown Bakeries is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kashmir Crown Bakeries until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Störm (talk) 05:08, 11 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The article Aleem Iqbal (Lord Aleem) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Being rich and getting into a car crash does not notability make.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice that Aleem Iqbal (Lord Aleem), a page that you created, has been tagged for deletion. If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Arnold saunders moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Arnold saunders, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. Notice that you are now subject to an editing restriction

[edit]

Per community consensus in this discussion, you are now topic banned from all articles related to Britain and Pakistan, broadly construed, and from all discussions regarding those topics anywhere on English Wikipedia. When your current block expires, you are free to edit any page that does not fall within the scope of this restriction. Note that violations of the restriction may result in your account being blocked, and any activity which might be seen to be "testing the edges" of the restriction may also be treated as a violation. If you have questions you may wish to read the banning policy or ask for clarification at the administrators' noticeboard. Thank you. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 14:40, 5 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • I just want to make sure the user understands what a topic ban is, since the whole of the banning policy is so long. Sansonic, there's a clear and simple short explanation at Topic ban. Topic ban violation

[edit]

Hi. This, and your other edits on British Pakistanis appears to violate the broadly construed part of your topic ban. Pinging @Ivanvector: just to be sure. --regentspark (comment) 14:52, 14 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

(responding to ping) Yes, editing that article certainly falls within the scope of your topic ban, as the ban discussion was initiated over a complaint of adding unsourced material to articles on Pakistanis in Britain, which is precisely what your three most recent edits have been. This will be your only warning: you are banned from editing any articles or pages about Britain and/or Pakistan. If you do not respect this ban we will start enforcing it with blocks. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 16:11, 14 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Edits such as this are not only a violation of your topic ban, Sansonic, but are an example of the political bias that resulted in that ban in the first place. Please stop this, or I will seek an indefinite block. Cordless Larry (talk) 21:15, 14 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Your draft article, Draft:Arnold Saunders

[edit]

Hello, Sansonic. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Arnold Saunders".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. Snowycats (talk) 17:17, 2 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Unblock discussion

As for their user page, the wording of the restriction is articles and related discussions, so I think their own user page is exempt. You might call it testing the edges, though? Unless I've missed something, you don't actually have an unblock request active. That's probably why you're not getting a response. Cordless Larry (talk) 09:02, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps Fences and windows could clarify what the plan is for AN/I? Cordless Larry (talk) 09:05, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I wasn't pinged and don't check my watchlist much these days, so I had no idea this was pending. I am not willing to speak with Sansonic by phone, so I do not advise including that in an AN/I post. Neither should you refer to UNDUE, which is a content policy and not a behavioural policy. Sansonic, please prepare a suitable statement. Fences&Windows 22:21, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sansonic, your last appeal was declined with an instruction to "formulate an unblock request that addresses your non constructive edits and how you would edit constructively". You have not done so, you just copied and pasted the same request. Also, Fences and windows has said three times now that they're not interested in talking to you on the phone. Nobody cares that you're "easily contactable" when you ignore what everyone is saying anyway. Please write a new unblock request that shows you understand why you were blocked and describes what you will do differently so that you are not blocked again. If you have questions about that please ask, but if you continue not paying attention to any of this and posting the same requests, your talk page access will be revoked for wasting everyone's time.
