Rijksmonumenten[edit]

Hi Taketa

I noticed that you are active in creating and improving Dutch Rijksmonument articles. Great -- I don't find the time but would love to do more.

A while ago I created a template Rijksmonument that creates a small info box which automatically links through to the Monumentregister. The template is fairly simple to add as it goes {{Rijksmonument|MONUMENT NUMBER}}. Applying the template systematically has a few advantages. If websites of the register change, a change to the template should solve it for all. The What is linking here overview of the template gives an overview of all Monuments in Wikipedia. So please consider using it. All the best Arnoutf (talk) 16:52, 4 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Arnoutf, I had noticed the template and had considered using it but decided not to because I did not see the purpose at the time. I will consider using it in my future works. All the best, Taketa (talk) 17:11, 4 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The fact that this editor has not edited in four years does not mean that he does not exist. Or am I missing something? Unless I am, the speedy tags on his pages, which I have removed and you replaced, are not appropriate.--Anthony Bradbury"talk" 16:35, 9 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

translation of a dutch sentence[edit]

Your user name is in the list of wp:Translators available#Dutch to English. I wonder if you can help me with a translation of the following sentence to English: "Er is nooit een artikel van mij gepubliceerd in een scientific tijdschrift." thanks.

I do not want to waste your time, but if you would like to hear about the background, here it is. The sentence source is an interview with Norman Finkelstein in a dutch newspaper. I added a translation of this sentence to his article, but 3 different users claims that the translation is wrong. When asked what is the problem they do not reply. So it is stuck. Ykantor (talk) 13:04, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ykantor, your translation is correct. I have had a look at the article. I think the main problem is context. You put the text in the article a bit weird. A single sentence quotation, which cannot be understood without context, is not a good way to start a section. It does not make sence without a bit more sentences around it to explain the situation. The situation is explained afterwards, so maybe find a different spot to put it, more at the end of the scientific career section, after all the conflicts have been explained. Or maybe somewhere in the middle with some extra text. All the best, Taketa (talk) 14:33, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It is not true that no-one has replied to Ykantor's query. There has in fact been several hundred words of discussion on this very point. I would appreciate it if, rather than simply stating "your translation is correct", you could offer your own translation of this sentence, to help resolve the ambiguities. Thanks. RolandR (talk) 16:37, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
As literal as possible: "Never has an article of mine been published in a scientific magazine." All the best, Taketa (talk) 16:51, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to persist on this, but the tense really matters here. Does the Dutch translation of his statement (presumably originally in English) quote him as saying that no article of his has ever at any time in the past been published in a scientific magazine, or that no article of his is ever now published? You comment above that the context is the main problem, and this ambiguity reflects that. Also, since he is a historian, what do you understand by the word "wetenschappelijk"? Is it "scientific", as we would use the term in English, or is it broader: scholarly, acadenic or similar? Many thanks. RolandR (talk) 21:50, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, taking the paragraph the sentence is in as background. He states how he is treated in the United States academic circles/environment if one critices Israel like he did in his work "Image and Reality of the Israel-Palestine Conflict". Everything else in the paragraph is about how he is treated in the United States. The "er" in the sentence can both refer to the United states or be meant in general, I cannot be sure. A few sentences before he says he has never been able to get a job, this is clearly an exageration, and the never been published may be the same; never been published in any prominent journals. You ask whether "wetenschappelijk" in this case is "scientific". I believe he means scientific journals, but then again, from this paragraph I do not have enough context to be sure. You asked for the tense is this case, this is never ever. All the best, Taketa (talk) 22:26, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It's still unclear. Does the sentence say "I have never ever been published" (which would be untrue), or "I am never ever published"? The difference, in terms of the overall meaning of the statement, is immense; it is the difference between "My work is too insignificant to publish" and "I am paying the price for my views". RolandR (talk) 02:07, 24 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The sentence says "I have never ever been published". Even if it is untrue, it is what it means. This is very clear in Dutch because it says "is nooit", the other meaning it would have been "wordt nooit". As you can see he also said he has never ever been able to get a job, which is obviously untrue. (Possible interpretations:) His intend may be an exageration, a certain type of job and a certain type of scientific journal. It could also be that he is referring to a past period in which his statements were true, but that his current situation, at the time of the quote, is better. However it would be an implied meaning from the context and not a literal meaning of what he says. All the best, Taketa (talk) 07:23, 24 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I am not a marter, says Finkelstein, when he fears he is creating that impression. "Every five year old Palestinian boy that throws a stone at an Israeli soldier has more courage then me. But if you want to know how you get treated in the American academic environment, if you criticise Israel, like I did in Image and Reality of the Israel-Palestine Conflict then this is it: I have never been able to get a job. On Hunter I am an adjunct-teacher, which is as much as an elevatorboy. My income is between 15.000 and 18.000 dollar, far below the poverty line. "If this appartment looks nice, it is because the furniture from my parents is still there. They both died in 1995, I was already living in their house. I could make a clean start and throw out all furniture, or leave it like it is. I left it like it is, that was also a way to process it. "I was one time invited for a solicitation interview, at the university of San Francisco, a small Jesuit college. Never has an article of mine been published in a scientific magazine. On Hunter I am never allowed to give a college about the extermination of the Jews, only about the history of the political theory. I also rarely teach during daytime, mostly in the evening. I have payed my due.

I hope this helps. All the best, Taketa (talk) 22:38, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the translation. User:RolandR is one of those 3 users that claimed that the translation is wrong but have not said what is wrong. However, the secret is exposed here. He apparently wants the translation to be "I am never ever published" rather than your translation "Never has an article of mine been published in a scientific magazine". Article on ITSU[edit]

Dear Taketa, It was pleasure talking to you yesterday and really appreciate the support you provided on the article. As per your suggestions, i have made changes to the article. As you have gone through the article in details, it will be great if you could spare few more minutes and have a fresh look and let me know if this can now be published. Thanks and best regards, Prashant.chitkara (talk) 10:48, 5 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Het toevoegen van illustraties[edit]

Good day, dear colleague!

Thank you very much for placing the photo on the page devoted to the Russian director Svetlana Druzhinina! I created this page, and I was very sorry that there were no illustrations. I have been working on Wikipedia for a long time, but I couldn’t find how to place a photo on the page. Now I’m creating pages in the English Wikipedia dedicated to Russian and Soviet films and actors.

For example:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonus_%28film%29

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Give_me_a_complaints_book

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zigzag_of_Success

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Most_Charming_and_Attractive

Can I ask you for help? You’ve mentioned that you specialize on the placing illustrations on pages. I would be very grateful if you could help me to post photos on the newly created pages. Thank you in advance!!! Looking forward to our cooperation!!!

yours sincerely, Ulugbeck1 (talk) 07:10, 20 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ulugbeck1, I add images when they are available on Commons. I had a look, and unfortunately there are no images available for these movies. Sorry I can't help. Sincerely, Taketa (talk) 21:17, 20 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Congressional term end date[edit]

I saw your message on my talk page and the discussion you started on WikiProject Politics. As I said on my talk page, I've never edited any of the articles related to this matter, nor do I intend to. However, my major concern at this point is that a single editor has unilaterally changed that date to March 3 in hundreds of articles, even though thousands of editors over many years have said it is March 4. Can you please get an administrator or someone else to mandate that the edtior self-revert all his edits regarding that date unless and until a consensus is reached to change it? I am simply not experienced enough to handle making this request and am hoping someone with your level of experience could make it instead. While I have no doubt the edtitor's intentions were good, the way he went about it was highly improper. Perhaps you could first ask him to voluntarily do the self-reverts? Czoal (talk) 20:08, 3 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Czoal, I understand you object to the current stated date, but the other party also claims the dates were originally as they currently are. Any revert would only satisfy one party. Any action means chosing a correct answer, and I do not know the correct answer. Until this is resolved, noone should act. I have asked for a community wide input. We will hopefully have some feedback from third parties within the next 24 hours and be able to determine which side has general support. Sincerely, Taketa (talk) 20:27, 3 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't read anywhere where the other editor said the date was originally March 3 in the articles. But it really doesn't matter because before someone goes around making a change like that in a massive number of articles, he should first discuss it with other editors and reach consensus. Now, hundreds of articles have been changed because of one editor's claim. Since so many articles are now affected, he should be asked to revert himself until this matter is resolved. By the way, thank you very much for starting that discussion. Czoal (talk) 20:40, 3 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Article upgrade assistance request (Pre-translation stage)[edit]

Seasons Greetings,

This is in reference to a relatively new umbrella article on en-wikipedia named Ceremonial pole. Ceremonial pole is a human tradition since ancient times; either existed in past at some point of time, or still exists in some cultures across global continents from north to south & from east to west. Ceremonial poles are used to symbolize a variety of concepts in several different world cultures.

Through article Ceremonial pole we intend to take encyclopedic note of cultural aspects and festive celebrations around Ceremonial pole as an umbrella article and want to have historical, mythological, anthropological aspects, reverence or worships wherever concerned as a small part.

While Ceremonial poles have a long past and strong presence but usually less discussed subject. Even before we seek translation of this article in global languages, we need to have more encyclopedic information/input about Ceremonial poles from all global cultures and languages. And we seek your assistance in the same.

Since other contributors to the article are insisting for reliable sources and Standard native english; If your contributions get deleted (for some reason like linguistics or may be your information is reliable but unfortunately dosent match expectations of other editors) , please do list the same on Talk:Ceremonial pole page so that other wikipedians may help improve by interlanguage collaborations, and/or some other language wikipedias may be interested in giving more importance to reliablity of information over other factors on their respective wikipedia.

This particular request is being made to you since your user name is listed in Wikipedia:Translators available list.

Thanking you with warm regards Mahitgar (talk) 05:53, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Your Comment on Collaborative consumption[edit]

Dear Taketa,

thanks for the feedback. I already talked about this matter with Romaine and my tutors in the very start of our course. Firstly, Collaborative consumption is not the same as Sharing economy but an economical concept that is embedded in a sharing economy. Also, my contribution on collaborative consumption brings new information and essential distinctions with it that the section about the concept in the sharing economy article does not provide. Furthermore, we will not necessarily publish our articles on Wikipedia itself but may also chose to just leave them in our sandbox. So I don't think we have too much of a problem here. Thank you for your concern though!

Best regards,

Felix — Preceding unsigned comment added by Felixthomaswayan (talkcontribs) 14:34, 2 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I saw that before asking you, sorry i must have asked you the wrong question. who but jps decided which articles to tag ?--Wuerzele (talk) 09:58, 19 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
As I understand it, the arbcom has issued that 1RR now applies to all articles relating to genetically modified organisms, agricultural biotechnology, and agricultural chemicals, broadly construed [4]. This means the 1RR already counts. Obviously most people are not aware. If an edit conflict starts, and you see someone break 1RR, you have to show them the template. This can be done on their talk page. If they still do not listen you can ask admin sanctions. Jps added the editnotice to some articles he thought people should be warned in advance. In theory, the editnotice should be on all articles concerned. However, I think this is impossible since the topic is too broad. I think we should limit it to the most obvious articles and those where there is a conflict. But in theory, anyone can choose where the templates are added. Sincerely, Taketa (talk) 18:46, 19 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
THanks. just as i thought, anarchic.--Wuerzele (talk) 05:34, 20 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

1RR[edit]

Hi. You recently placed a 1RR notice relating to GMOs on the Precautionary principle article. This appears to be a very large extension of the sanctions and I was wondering how you came to this conclusion.DrChrissy (talk) 12:48, 27 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Dear DrChrissy, the 1RR notice on GMOs had been previously placed on the article talk page by I9Q79oL78KiL0QTFHgyc [5] [6]. When I arrived there was an ongoing discussion which included GMOs. As such, I concluded this page did indeed fall under the arbcom decision, as being "any page relating to genetically modified organisms... ...broadly construed". Therefor, I moved the notice to the edit notice of the talk page and of the article, so as to properly inform the editors. Sincerely, Taketa (talk) 18:40, 27 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Brussels[edit]

Bedankt. I notice much of the work is happening in other languages, not English. I have no particular ideas but if there is some good work being done which could be "transferred" over to en maybe then I can help? (Can work from Dutch, French and some others.)--Andrew Lancaster (talk) 17:49, 10 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Andrew, Taketa asked me if I could help you out. I see you have a keen interest in genetics, an philosophy and master Dutch and French. That should open a lot of options indeed. Would you by accident be living in Brussels ? Back to your question on topics. I'm sur that if you browse on the French Wikipedia page of the ULB (Université Libre de Bruxelles), that you will find some philosophers to translate. The Vrije Universiteit Brussel, has some merits in genetics, and its hospital in Jette is world leader in in vitro fertilisation. nl:Jean Paul Van Bendegem is a contemporary science philosopher and his lemmatise merits extension and translation IMHO. But you could also translate some more touristic things. On the Dutch side of the project, a lot has been written on churches, parcs and lesser known musea. Most of these lemmas are not too long, so easy targets. SvenDK (talk) 06:37, 12 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Taketa. While conducting a GA review for Water polo at the 1900 Summer Olympics, the reviewer had a question about this file that I used in the article. I used it because it was uploaded to Commons, so I presumed all copyright issues had been cleared, but they pointed out that it was uploaded as "own work". Since the uploader wasn't around in 1916, I presume that there's something more going on if the upload is valid, but since I'm not very familiar with the copyright policies on Commons (and have no account), I thought that I would ask you if you knew what was going on, since you added it to the article. Could take a quick look at confirm that it is free use? Thanks. Canadian Paul 17:38, 7 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Canadian Paul, the image is free to use. The author most likely indicates "own work" because they made the digital version of the original picture. This is not relevant for the image being free however. The image is free because it is in the public domain in both Belgium (country of origin) and the USA (country of WMF). The image is in the public domain because it was taken in 1916 by an unknown author. As can be seen at Commons:Commons:Copyright_rules_by_territory works by an unknown author become public domain in Belgium after 70 years, and works before 1923 are public domain in the USA. I hope this answers your question. Sincerely, Taketa (talk) 19:28, 7 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Request for help verifying a couple of Dutch sources[edit]

Hi there, I found you listed on the Wikipedia translators page, so I hope you don't mind me approaching you for help.

I'm trying to verify all the references on the Ehsan Sehgal page, after some of the English and Urdu sources there have been found to be unreliable or used in a misleading manner. There are two Dutch, both articles from Haagsche Courant. I was hoping you might be able to verify that each support the facts they're marshaled to support, as well as offer a view on whether either could be used to establish the notability of this individual as an author.

The two articles, with [the sentence they're used to support]:

  • Korving, Joke (3 January 1979). "Gevlucht". Haagsche Courant. p. 17. [In 1978, he sought political asylum in the Netherlands, settling in The Hague]
  • Herberghs, Saskia (29 September 2010). "Even vragen aan: Ehsan Sehgal, dichter". AD Haagsche Courant. p. 5. [ In 2010, having lived in the Netherlands for over three decades, he published a collection of aphorisms in Dutch. The book, De Wijze Weg ("The Wise Way"), was written and translated with the help of Naeem Arif.

Many thanks for any help that you might be able to offer. Landscape repton (talk) 12:18, 15 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Reviewer granted[edit]

Hello Taketa. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group, allowing you to review new pages and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or in some cases, tag them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is a vital function for policing the quality of the encylopedia, if you have not already done so, you must read the new tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the various deletion criteria. If you need more help or wish to discuss the process, please join or start a thread at page reviewer talk.

  • URGENT: Please consider helping get the huge backlog down to a manageable number of pages as soon as possible.
  • Be nice to new users - they are often not aware of doing anything wrong.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted - be formal and polite in your approach to them too, even if they are not.
  • Don't review a page if you are not sure what to do. Just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Remember that quality is quintessential to good patrolling. Take your time to patrol each article, there is no rush. Use the message feature and offer basic advice.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In case of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, the right can be revoked at any time by an administrator. Alex Shih (talk) 00:46, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
