Bill Evans Dance[edit]

I see that you started Bill Evans Dance, but it got speedy-deleted? I'm not even a big dance buff and I know Evans' work. Certainly deserves an article. Being an admin, I took a look at the deleted article, and I can see why it got deleted: nothing there indicated why Evans or his troupe are notable. I strongly encourage you to try doing an article on them again, but one that give people a clue why they would care. If you want a copy of your previous, deleted text, let me know.Jmabel | Talk 05:29, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You are now a Reviewer[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC). Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here. If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Eva Evdokimova, prima ballerina assoluta[edit]

I'm puzzled by the inclusion of Eva Evdokimova in Prima ballerina assoluta, awarded in 1976 in the US. What is your take on this? — Robert Greer (talk) 17:18, 22 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Slightly bemused by the lack of information about Evdokimova. It would seem to me that she is undoubtedly recognised as PBA, but the exact details seem to have been lost. One reference I found suggests that Dudinskaya 'announced' her to be a PBA after her guest appearances with the Kirov, with the Berlin Senate giving 'official' approval for the title shortly after. However other sources suggest that the Berlin Senate only announced her as Prima Ballerina of the Berlin ballet, so it's which version of events is correct. For me the former seems to be the most likely, as I strongly doubt that the Berlin Senate would involve themselves in the promotion of a dancer to the rank of Prima Ballerina. That is a ballet company issue, but it would certainly make sense for the senate to official sanction the use of the PBA title don't you think? Perhaps you can have a dig round for more information on this, if anything accurate exists... we all know how good the ballet world is at distorting the truth though poor record keeping. Crazy-dancing (talk) 08:36, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I remain deeply skeptical about Evdokimova being an assoluta. Her obit. in the NY Times (Jennifer Dunning, April 6, 2009) says she was a prima ballerina but makes no mention of being a prima ballerina assoluta. The Berliner Morgenposten, April 5, 2009, reads, "Es war, als tanze sie stets in den Himmel hinauf. Eva Evdokimova war viele Jahre lang, von 1973 bis 1985, die Primaballerina wahrhaft assoluta der Deutschen Oper in der Bismarckstraße," which may be a statement of fact or a panegyric. The Guardian, April 8, 2009, says, "Evdokimova decided to join the Deutsche Oper in Berlin in 1969 ... She stayed on in Berlin until 1985 (as prima ballerina from 1973)" [emphasis added]. Playbill writes, "I have programs that list Evdokimova as "prima ballerina assoluta" and there are several reliable sources that say she was given the title by the Kirov's ballet mistress Dudinskaya." What I can find are:

  1. The Times "Eva Evdokimova: prima ballerina assoluta", April 18, 2009
  2. Dance Magazine, December 2005, interview
  3. Ballet Arts bio.
  4. Oxford Dictionary of Dance entry
  5. Find a Grave entry
  6. People, January 11, 1988, Vol. 29, No. 1

I can only access the London Times' headline (and 32 words from the article).

Dance Magazine quotes her as saying, "'Prima ballerina assoluta' is a title reserved for ballerinas who perform the major classical roles and are internationally recognized in those roles. I was given this status by Natalia Dudinskaya and the vote of the Berlin Senate when I joined the Deutsche Oper Ballet in West Berlin," but what Playbill wrote implies that this was at the Kirov [emphasis added].

The Ballet Arts website states that, "She has appeared as Prima Ballerina Assoluta with American Ballet Theater, Kirov Ballet, La Scala Milano, National Ballet of Canada, National Ballet of Cuba, Paris Opera Ballet, Stuttgart Ballet and Tokyo Ballet.... She later joined the Ballet of the Deutsche Oper, Berlin, where she was quickly promoted to Prima Ballerina Assoluta. At the invitation of Natalya Dudinskaya, she joined the Kirov Ballet as a solist" [emphasis added].

She was apparently a solist at the Kirov — and assuredly not an assoluta at ABT, La Scala, the Paris Opera, Stuttgart and Tokyo Ballets and the National Ballets of Canada and Cuba — that would have been news to Alicia Alonso! I do not mean to disparage Evdokimova, but in the absence of a credible source for the Berlin senate decree this is very hard to buy. — Robert Greer (talk) 02:00, 26 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have e-mail from an expert who has a collection of dance memorabilia which may include materials to back up Evdokimova being an assoluta (he casts doubt, however, on Alicia Markova being one!) — Robert Greer (talk) 21:54, 10 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

There is no question on Markova... I don't know as there will be any evidence of a 'formal' recognition, as with Fonteyn, but look at any material from English National Ballet; they style her as their company Assoluta and that's satisfactory to me. She is also included in a book of PBAs published by Hephaestus Books, not that I've read it, but she is listed on the content description. In traditional ballet terms, PBA is a title bestowed by your balletic peers, not by kings or presidents, and the Russians are entirely to blame for confusing that. This is why the French still use the PBA equivalent "Etoile" as an active rank, with lesser dancers being titled "premier danseur" or principal dancer to you and I. The Italians do the same, and are perhaps even more selective than the French when it comes to promoting people to the rank of Etoile. I realise you know all of this, but it helps to remind ourselves of the origin of the title I suppose, otherwise we forget that there actually is no universal definition of what is a PBA. As for Evdokimova, it certainly seemed to me that the title was without question, but as with so many things in ballet, the story of how she came by it has been confused by people jumbling up her history. Per this, I don't care where the quote comes from, because this is not a literary exercise. Speedy deletion nomination of Template:User fr-11[edit]

A tag has been placed on Template:User fr-11 requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion because it is an unused duplicate of another template, or a hard-coded instance of another template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is not actually the same as the other template noted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page explaining how this one is different so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{substituted}}</noinclude>).

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. The article Kathryn Posin has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Kathryn Posin[edit]

When you created the article on Kathryn Posin you included a lot of detail. Either (a) you've got a photographic memory and knew it all, or (b) the whole article is a hoax, or (c) - much the most likely - you got the information from a book, magazine or website. If (c), please add your source to the article. The article was threatened with deletion as "Biography of living peron with no sources", and I've rescued it from that by adding her faculty page at Gallatin, but you could do much more. Thanks. AfroCine: Join the Months of African Cinema this October![edit]

Greetings!

After a successful first iteration of the “Months of African Cinema” last year, we are happy to announce that it will be happening again this year, starting from October 1! In the 2018 edition of the contest, about 600 Wikipedia articles were created in at least 8 languages. There were also contributions to Wikidata and Wikimedia commons, which brought the total number of wikimedia pages created during the contest to over 1,000.

The AfroCine Project welcomes you to October, the first out of the two months which have been dedicated to creating and improving content that centre around the cinema of Africa, the Caribbean, and the diaspora. Join us in this global edit-a-thon, by helping to create or expand articles which are connected to this scope. Also remember to list your name under the participants section.

On English Wikipedia, we would be recognizing participants in the following manner:

  • Overall winner (1st, 2nd, 3rd places)
  • Diversity winner
  • Gender-gap fillers

For further information about the contest, the recognition categories and how to participate, please visit the contest page here. For further inquiries, please leave comments on the contest talkpage or on the main project talkpage. See you around :).--Jamie Tubers (talk) 00:50, 30 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Orazio (vacuum cleaner) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Notability issue and no sources since 2016.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. K. Notice

The article Cheryl Angear has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No claim nor evidence of notability. No third-party RSes about the subject. WP:BEFORE shows zero RS mention of the subject, let alone coverage suitable for a BLP.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Japan House requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company, corporation or organization that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. User:Namiba 14:31, 19 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Feedback Request[edit]

Hi there! I have recently made a request for an assessment of the article Puppetry of the Penis on WikiProject Theatre. I have been editing this article for over a month, adding almost 3000 words, new sections, an infobox, media and more references for verifiability. I noticed you were a very active (and helpful) editor of WikiProject Theatre, and was wondering if you had the time if you could have a look at the article and provide me any feedback. Any general feedback would be much appreciated and possibly an assessment of the article for importance and quality. Thank you very much. Rubyredgirl (talk) 10:18, 11 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
